Yes, I know parrots shouldn't have coffee. I keep telling Rocky he can't have coffee. But every time I try to have coffee, he tries to get it from me. He will move heaven and earth and even bite me (not hard) if I try to keep it away from him. I NEED my coffee. I thought and thought and finally decided to try giving him herbal tea so he'd have a cup of "coffee" of his own and would, perhaps, let me have mine. I had no real hope that it would work. I bought some chamomile tea and I made him some and cooled it enough to drink without cooling it entirely. I thought if it were still warm, like coffee, he would like that better. Parrots, in my experience, are suspicious of anything new and I figured he wouldn't even taste it. Except ... he did taste it. And then dove in beak first and drank and drank like he'd been waiting all his life for this. And it wasn't an anomaly. I've made tea for him a few times now, and he always drinks it.

Brilliant! Especially if he needs any meds in the future! You have the ideal vehicle for any in liquid form. Really useful IMO.

I actually have a bird that is insistent on morning coffee as well... but not in drinking it.

Sally is my morning Coffee bird. Always has been. She is fascinated by the coffee pot. The minute I start making it in the morning she flies to me and "helps." (And she gets quite upset if I start without her.)

She sits on my hand while I drink my coffee every morning.

Just like Maggie has Laundry day.

Sally has morning coffee time.

Every bird seems to have something...

That's adorable.

Harry loves a cup of herbal tea or juice from her own cup, it has come in handy for liquid meds but the chamomile tea is also good for plucking. I can't have a glass or cup of anything when Harry's out of her cage, she doesn't try to drink it, she knows she can't get by with stealing a sip but she will fly by and hit the cup or glass with her feet just to knock it over and watch the messy crash.

Poppy will drink herbal tea or juice if she thinks I'm sharing it with her.

:44: Harry is possessed!! ;)

ROFL, Scott! Yes, my Harry has her demons! I'm nuts about my crazy girl but sometimes I wonder exactly what I did to deserve her.

Crashing tea and coffee cups makes her giggle but a fly by that knocks Sammy tumbling off my head makes her day. She waits for just the right moment to ambush him and send him squawking back to his cage. Little fighter pilot.

I know they shouldn't have coffee, but I have such vivid memories of my aunt's Louro (BFA) having a teaspoon full of coffee with sugar every morning for 40 years. He would yell for it every morning "mama, mama, get coffee!" So a teaspoon was just stuck in the cage with a little bit of coffee and he lapped it up.

This is funny, and I can relate! lol. Arleen and I were playing cribbage on evening and I was having a cup of decaf tea,and Jonesy was on my arm..he scooted down my arm to my hand with the cup,and immediately stuck his little beak right in it..I swear he must have "sipped" the tea 15 times or so..and after that, every time I had tea,so did he lol..it was adorable seeing his little white head in the cup, then lifting it out,and his little beaky going a mile a minute :D

My Kyo loves to drink tea and juice with me. Anything that she thinks she is getting some of "mine" (even if I also have coffee heh) they are so funny. They really just want to fit in with the flock after all.

Plums always wants my tea, I take milk so it's not really good. To pacify him he gets couple of sips only and not every day. He tries with coffee also but that's a definite 'no go little fella'. The thing that cracks me up is he drinks the tea like he's tasting champagne - head goes right up in the air and his beak is making a sound bit like us slapping our lips I suppose. So funny.

The other thing is he will drink from a cup/mug okay but when it's a glass he will only stand on the rim and then tries to get a drink???
