The rainbow we've had for 3.5 years has turned out to be a girl. We'd always thought a boy as it was quite aggressive towards other birds (even big ones) and can whistle and talk well (albeit with a heavy accent :)). For some time it had been spending much of the day, and all night, under a stand-up "vibration machine" I'd put on the veranda for lack of space indoors. With the arrival of a new (old) cage it was in the way, so moved it out ahead of giving it away. Under it, I found an egg! Just one, and no nest at all, just laying on the paving bricks. She'd been quite aggressive towards my wife, attacking her toes when she came out to feed Coco (the rainbow) and Corey the corella, who've continued to stay on the veranda despite the summer heat. It got to the stage my wife was afraid to go on the veranda, especially in sandals, but I've had no problems despite getting around in sandals or bare-footed.

The egg's been disposed of, it would be infertile anyway.

What a surprise after thinking your pet is a boy for years! Now you have to remember to say "he" :)

My Lory tried humping me and under the guidance at the beginning of Lory ownership, the breeder of many Lory/Lorikeets from Australia told me mine is a boy which I already knew.

At least you won't have to change the name as Coco is fine for a girl too!!! :)

Coco never did that, unlike our tame eccy. However, she'd fluff up and hiss and "pin" her eyes although not in a threatening manner, so to speak. We did think her "territorial" behaviour was odd though, she attacked two different eccies including Alex the tame boy, who we put out on the verandah on one of the rare cool(er) mornings. We've brought Coco inside last two days as it's been 41C, and very hot on the veranda (which has a single skin steel roof).

Glad you found out !!! always nice to know

Just think the name stays the same the only change will be on your side calling her instead of him.
