One of the hardest things I've ever done was give up my Moluccan, Mango and Umbrella, Oscar. I just could not meet their emotional needs. Both were so intelligent and complex beings, they deserved better than being my "pet". I just couldn't cage them any longer, the guilt was eating me up. These weren't just pets, they were my friends. I read about a sanctuary where they don't have cages. They were kept together in a species specific area. Being with their own kind they thrived. I keep in touch regularly with the founder, both Mango and Oscar are having the time of their lives!

Bravo! For what you have done, and for being smart enough to realize this before the birds developed problems. Wow! What a great looking place! We love our birds very much, and understand that we put them in an unnatural environment, because we want them to be with us. But, when you cannot provide the optimum living conditions for them, and realize it, with an opportunity to bring them to where you have, I think that's a noble thing to do.

It was the saddest day of my life, when I shipped them off. The look of confusion and betrayal, being inside the shipping cage, makes me tear up, even after 6 years. I miss these birds like I'd miss my own child since I hand reared Mango. I am grateful for the 5 years I had with them, they bought so much joy to my life.
