Cockatiel nail care

What do you use to keep your tiel's nails trim? The vet recommended an emery board, but his toes seem so delicate that I feel like I'm filing off his foot when I tried it. They have such tiny feet, especially next to other parrots.

I just use concrete perches to keep them trimmed. Somehow my adult tiels never have over grown nail issues as I never had to trim any of them. The only ones I trim are the macaws and the ekkies once in awhile. Malachai once in a great while.
