Awwwww! Such a cutie. The best way to determine the gender of a cockatiel is through DNA testing (bloodwork). Wouldn't hurt to have a visit to the vet for a wellness check and have them do the bloodwork to identify whether if this cutie is a girl or boy.. I usually take my cockatiel to the vet on annual basis just to ensure that he is healthy.

He is just a white face, not that that's a bad thing lol! White face is probably my fav cockatiel color, has he had his first molt yet? If so get a pic of the underside of his wings and tail, if he has barring he's female if not and they're solid black or grey he's male.

I hope the many photos reflect the adoration this bird gets from you! And treats. Many photos and many treats.

Also, I would wonder if Winnie might be a girl. The head is grey and I THINK you’d expect it to be white if Winnie were a boy.
Anyhow I’m sure Winnie doesn’t care.

Also, winnie has been really hormonal and cranky, he has bitten a few people and has drawn blood once 🙁

How do i stop him from biting people?

I know the heart wings and tapping with the beak are boy things but are they ever done by girls? Maybe @PippTheBananaBirb would know or another cockatiel person. I haven’t had a cockatiel in years.
Only saw this now!

Typically females don't do the heart wings. Females can sing and chatter, but they tend not to, because it's the males that needs to win over the girl. Its very rare for females to do it.

Females usually do the bending down thing, where the push their back down and start making hormonal noises. Female budgies also do this.

My cockatiel Pippen is just a grumpy fluffball that requires atttention 24/7 lol.

If you want to be certain you can always take your bird for a DNA test

He is a boy im 99% sure, His face is getting really white, he is losing the baring on tail feathers and spots on wings too. He has attempted to say "Whatcha doin" and is quite successful too!

He does beak bashing and heartwings. I dont know if this is only a boy thing but he also loves to bop his head.

How often do you take your cockatiels to the vet?
It seems quite expensive?

I take my cockatiel to the vet every May. I homed my bird in the month of April back in 2011. The vet does bloodwork, check his heart, respiration, trim his toe nails (sometimes they are like little razor blades), she goes through his feathers and also does a gram stain. It usually cost me about $200 a year, but to me, Tango is a family member and having a great vet is worth every penny. Also, if in case my bird does get sick, they have established numbers in his file, just like us humans, history of health is very important.
