i have 2.5 months old alexandrine parrot, is it ok if i clip his wings at this age?

Has he fledged? Their wings should not be clipped until after they fledge.

yes... he has started to fly now.... this is his third day of flight....

If it were me, I would give him some more flight time before clipping.

I too would suggest letting him at least learn how to fly before clipping. In the future, you may want him to be flighted again for various reasons. There seems to be a developmental age range they learn how to easily, and like riding a bike, they never forget how (may just need some practice and building up the muscles again). My dads cockatoo had to be clipped for a few years when I was very young, but once I got older, he was flighted again and had no problems picking it back up.

My 16 y/o amazon never learned to fly and has been clipped his whole life (to my knowledge, he was adopted). We let his wings grow out after adopting him and tried to teach him, but he had no interest in learning and seemingly no concept of what his wings even did. In the 6+ years we've had him, he's never made attempts to fly, he just climbs or walks (or raises his foot to ask a human for a ride). He does like to flap his wings, whilst hanging onto your hand for dear life:rolleyes: but thats about as close to "flight" as it seems he'll ever get.

I currently have two Alexandrines, a male and female. They are both fully flighted and have had no problem with bonding or training either of them. I have taught my birds about windows and what places they can and can't perch. If you don't need to clip him then why would you.

I have read various website and there is conflicting information. I just decided to keep it simple If the bird can fly well I just let. But each to their own.

Last year..... My 4 months old alexandrine flew away.... So i don't want this happened on the new one....

I can relate to that, having lost a female Eclectus a few years ago. So when I got my next birds I did some basic flighted recall training. Both Delfin and Mulawa will come when called and sit on my shoulders and watch what I'm doing.

Have you considered flighted recall training instead? There is some really good training videos available on the web.

I know very little of what there is to know about birdkeeping, but I know I lost a very tame Alexandrine male over a year ago when he just flew away through an open door. That was not quite devastating, but severe. I have seen what appears to be a valuable article today by Hillary Hankey at So you want to train your pet parrot for freeflight?. | Learning Parrots
I hope that including this url does not breach the forum rules, but the information there seems like it would be valuable to every parrot owner (guardian?) who does not clip their bird(s), and I think that this information would be valuable indeed to many forum members.
