I've been looking into way to bond with my CAG. Clicker training seems to be one of them, and it seems like a good idea. I only hear good things about it.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with it? especially with a Grey.

I personally am not a fan of clicker training. However I'm all for it for other people to use on your pets. It's intellectually stimulating so I imagine a grey especially would benefit from lots of clicker training and tricks :)

I'm only not a fan of it because I take the somewhat lazy approach. Merlin does learn, but it's a more passive type. :) I did however clicker train my old dog with great success. I don't really have a 'downside' to clicker training. I think my problem would be my forgetfulness, Merlin would do something that needed a clicker response and I would forget and so all the training would unravel... I'd rather he just learnt things the way he does... but then he's probably never going to be a trick pony! :)

I'd pretty much second what Mayden said. But you don't NEED the clicker around. If they do something good it wont hurt anything to NOT hear the click - you just praise and reward them anyway you can.

Clickers can be a useful tool in training ... though there are plenty of people out there who make them out to be some sort of magic wand. I'd love to be nicer, but those people are idiots.

It's a great tool, and if you learn how to use it a clicker can be very helpful. Go for it.
