A sun conure, budgie. Miss my cockatiel Sam. See you someday I hope Sam! And my little girl Sky a budgie that passed away in 2007 Thunder my budgie passed away too last September. Miss you little budd
As in a previous post, my sun conure Sunny has a cut on his foot that has been bandaged and he's now sporting an "E collar". The vet said that he seems to have a small pocket of infection in his right foot which is making him pick at his foot.
She gave us a bottle of antibiotic "Clavamax" which is nothing more than augmentin antibiotic and we have to give him .1 cc twice a day. We've been doing that for the past two weeks. Now, it seems that he has diarrhea or at least very loose droppings. I worry about him losing to much fluids although he is drinking regularly.
Has anyone ever had to give their conure antibiotics? And if so, is that a normal side effect?
I will discuss it with the vet too of course. He goes back on Tuesday.

Thanks a bunch!

All 3 of my birds have been on it at some point; the Grey and amazon recently. My amazon also had some loose droppings and a little bit of diarrhea. It wasn't constant though and he did ok. It's a side effect I've had as well with anti-biotics, so I didn't worry about it but kept my eye on him in case it got bad, which it didn't. If it does get severe, contact your vet and he/she will change the anti-biotic. You might also give some pro-biotics when he is done with the Clavimox as sometimes anti-biotics also kill good bacteria in the digestive track.

That is a common side affect of antibiotics on any species. Let the vet know and he can probably give you something to stop the diarrhea. I an a veterinary technician and we see this type problem all the time. easy fix tho.
