Hi all, Buddy my Mexican Redhead has been with us for 10 days now and I've been trying new fruits and veggies each day. Today I gave him 1/2 of a tangerine called a halo and he immediately went to town on it. I read that citrus should be given no more than once every 4-5 days, this is the first citrus I've given him.

My husband and I love pineapple. I love it so much that when I eat fresh pineapple, I break out with ulcers in my mouth and I don't care. Like the lady in the first Dr. Doolittle that goes in with an allergic reaction because she ate shell fish again, lol. I know pineapple is very acidic so is fresh pineapple something Buddy can eat? Also how often can parrots have citrus? Thanks!

BAHAHAHAHAH @ what you said about breaking out and looking like the lady who had the shellfish allergy. OMG, I can't stop laughing now!!! WHAT a visual!!

Pineapple is fine for Buddy, as are tangerines. Just do it in moderation. You are lucky he's taking to the tangerines readily. All of mine turn their beaks away from oranges, tangerines and grapefruit. :( But they all LOVE pineapple.

Citrus is very acidic, which is why it shouldn't be a daily thing. That said, some parrots are all over citrus fruit and it's fine in moderation. Kiwi gets a chunk of pineapple or orange slice every few days as part of his "fruit rotation". I try to give Kiwi a different kind of fruit or veg every day so he doesn't end up getting too much of anything, and gets variety with everything :)

LOL, my family laughs at me with pineapple.

I've been trying all kinds. Of fruit and vegetables. I haven't given him seed in three day, all fresh foods, some Buddy and I are sharing. So far he likes red apple, pear, tangerine, corn on the cob, edamame, yellow pepper, and of course popcorn. He doesn't seem to like broccoli, field peas, snow peas, mango, banana, strawberries, carrot, pasta, and kale. I'll rotate these again because this is all new to him so I'm sure he'll like some eventually but I have to agree with him on the mango. He threw it out of his bowl, all of it so I tasted the mango (from the fridge, I put the remaining mango there, lol), I'm not a fan either.
