I really hate posting this, especially on a day that is suppose to be filled with joy.
Num Num is not right....at all.
he's puffy, very sleepy, and on the bottom of the cage....now I don't think it's very serious, but it is very concerning.
when I uncovered him this morning he was at the door wanting out, but because it's xmas, all the birds are in their cages today.
later on I went back into the bedroom I found him on the bottom of the cage.....what???....very strange....seemed ok earlier
I put a heating pad in the cage, along with a heat lamp. I mixed some formula with electrolytes and he refused it.
I sat there holding him close to me, giving him gentle scritches, and he has lots of pin feathers, non are visible.
could be contributing to part of the issue.
I removed Pearl, his mate, and her put her in the cage beside Num Num.he really didn't care he was so tired, which is NOT Num Num. if he is ever removed from her he freaks!,,,,calling and calling and calling out or her....not today, he just went back to sleep while I held him.
what I've noticed is in the past few weeks Pearl has not been letting Num Num near the dish as much, and with plenty of fighting and chasing around the cage....then when I come back in later, they are eating together....but then she starts in on him again and boots him off.
we have put 2 dishes of food in the cage to prevent this, but she seems to protect both of them.....grrrrrr.
Now that she is in the other cage, he ate for 17 minutes non-stop(I timed him)
I had millet on the dish as well, but he went right for the food.
I wondering if all of this is a direct result of Pearl not letting him eat his usual amount of food. it would certainly explain why he is lethargic........he's starving!!!
this whole week he has seemed fine, the poor thing has been starving and has gone unnoticed until earlier today.
ever since Num Num broke his beak, those two have not been the same, at all, always fighting, and she picks on him more now than she has in the past.
I feel so badly for him.
At least he is eating and drinking, and at this point it's the only thing I can think of that might be wrong with him.
just as a precaution I have given him a dosage of Baytril which was left over from his beak operation.
he has been perched for short periods of time, but then climbs down and goes to sleep again.
we are going out for dinner, so I'm praying when I return he has improved!!
