Parrots
Jasper (6yr old Solomon Island Eclectus Parrot)
Had a scare last night with Jasper. We were doing some training and I gave him an almond as a treat and he was happily eating it when it looked like he started to choke.

He was opening his mouth and sounded like he was gasping for air, twisting his neck all weird for what seemed like a long time. I didn't know what to do. Thank god he was able to get it up, I saw the piece in his mouth all of a sudden. (and then he ate it. gross. lol)

How do you help a choking parrot if they can't get the piece up? I felt completely useless standing there. I'm so thankful he got it out. There's always something with him, I feel like I need to keep him in bubble wrap :( What a scare.

Thank you. Jasper would be difficult to hold upside down while trying the method they suggested. He's so big :/ But good to know, thank you

That must have been a frightening experience. Wendy, thanks for the link, I hope I never have to use the technique, but good to know.

Cheers,

Camo
