Although Chili Pepper, like most Amazons, does not to be touched I believe he does this because he sees the way I interact with Maccardi and wants the same attention. Monkey see monkey do - LOL

LOL how cute! My Sun would let me walk around carrying him like that all day if I felt like it.

He's waiting for you to play with his feet!! one of their favorite things, "Footsie"

He can get a nippy sometimes when doing this but he is the one that initiates this activity, I'm just there for the ride-lol. I can only assume he is trying mimic Maccardi and wants the hands-on play. Perhaps it goes against his every instinct but just can't help himself. I'm working with him to try and get him more comfortable with this. He really, really does not like to be touched so for him to do this is a real effort. Could I be reinforcing his nippiness? Any suggestions on how to get him to stop the nipping without discouraging him from wanting to play on his back?

I've found that when they play on their back, they get so excited that nipping just can't be helped. My 40 yr old hen very rarely bites too hard when on her back, but still does. Usually all i have to do is tell her "easy" and she good, but if i get too rough ,she does too. Of course we like it rough, LOL

LOL you are too funny!

That is cute.. Sassy plays with me and sometimes I flip her on her back, but not like that. That take real trust. As far as I got, was rolling her on her back while she laid on my belly. The lady I bought Sassy from liked grabbing her in a towel and flipping her upside down. Sassy does not like towels nor gloves.

I'd probably had Jake for about 20 yrs before she started flipping over on her back and playing. Since then i've started younger birds doing it and it really is something they do naturally. Just took Jake to show me how much they like it.

Chili won't flip on his back when playing alone. Only if he's playing with me. I think it is so cute when they turn on their backs while playing on their own. Maybe one day he will.
