I don't eat meat myself, but I visited my friends and ask them to pack some chicken bones with some meat for Marley.
Boy, she can kill for this stuff.
She would hold the bone in her foot and eat it till it's all gone.
Is it OK for the bird to eat bird???........

Hello Torrap,
Marley seems to really like his chicken. I ve personally never given my kiwi anything except hand feeding formula and puréed fruit, but I do recall my vet telling a bit of cooked chicken on occasion is fine. I hope this helps. Take care.

Cooked chicken is fine, but it's high in protein and so shouldn't be fed too often. Chicken bones themselves shouldn't really be given as they can splinter after being cooked. Potentially splintering in the crop and digestive tract.

Stick to chicken OFF the bone :) Or bone with so much chicken on (and supervised) that they can't get to the bone without you knowing.

For months I've given egg shells to Grady for breakfast which he cracks and doesn't eat. So I stopped and started again this week. Same thing. Obviously doesn't think he needs more calcium. I always put chickens into the pressure cooker and feet the bones and broth to the dogs when very very soft. Today I gave Grady a really soft bone wondering if he wanted to eat it. He ate the whole thigh bone, not a smidgeon left. The reason I give the bones to the dogs is in the yard when they poop it's only hard, chaulky stuff for the children to step on so not at all messy. I'll give an update on the bone in Grady's breakfast asap. Hope he's still alive and pooping within normal limits. I figure his fluid intake should keep the poop normal but any comments? Do you think I might have to remove a fecal impaction!?

no.

Your replying from a thread from 2013....do a few more searches for bones, (I did myself a while back) it's common for birds to gnaw on them.

Just kind of keep track of his bowl movements, if anything changes take notice. If it's a pressure cooked bone it's basically going to softer than pellets....I wouldn't worry, BUT verify the poop factory is working ok.

Amy gets chicken leg bones whenever I have chicken. The marrow is good for them. Birds aren't like dogs where they can ingest splinters, they chew/pull off tiny pieces as were a dog will just swallow pieces.
I leave bits of meat on the bone also, making sure the chicken is THOROUGHLY cooked.
I believe bits of meat on occasion wont hurt, after all, they eat grubs and bugs an such in the wild.
My TAG went bonkers for a nice leg bone, literally ripping it from my fingers when she saw one.
Amy has been chowing on chic bones for 28 years or so with no ill effects.
Even his CAV said they are good for him..like everything else...in moderation.
Maybe once a month Amy will get one as a treat.

Cookie loves the larger bones... marrow and all. As was mentioned... everything in moderation. Cant verify its true or not, but I was told its not unusual for parrots to raid nest of other birds.. eating the eggs and/or the chicks. They are true omnivores.

Salty gets a leg or thigh bone when we have a whole chicken. He loves them, especially the marrow which is good for them. Not too often, maybe 2x a month. We are having one tonight and Salty can tell that a bone is in his future, cuz he sees it and smells it.

Our larger birds all get excited when they smell chicken cooking. They love the meat, and they crave the bones. They each get a small leg bone with a little meat left on it, and they eat pretty much all of it, except the last half of the bone. From watching them, they grind the bone into dust when they eat it - I suspect it's a great source of calcium for them.

It does seem a little creepy at first, maybe a little cannibalistic, but it's natural for birds to get extra protein when they can. It takes a LOT of seeds, fruit, etc. to match the protein in just a small bit of meat. I've had people argue that, except for raptors, birds never eat meat. For those people, I direct them to our local salmon stream during the spawning season. There, they'll find all sorts of birds feeding on fish, including ducks (which I've watched feeding on salmon that are still alive).
