Alaska
Parrots
-no parrots yet-
I do have two cats -Riply & Nano bites-
four snakes- china, dip & stick, and Grand Chahee-
has anyone heard of him? Is he for real?

I just want to know, Ive seen some of his Clicker training on Youtube, and before I shell out 60 dollars, I want to make sure his training program is legit. Or is it a waste of time? can anyone help me?

I have never heard of him, sorry I can't be any help there.

The nickel answer is yes he is for real, not a synthetic.

The training methods he uses are basically adapted falconry techniques using positive rewards and weight control. He has some good pointers but I personally was disappointed in the whole process.
I was really ticked as to how long it took me to get off his emailing list! Once there, your getting bugged several times a week for this item or that video clip etc. with no end in sight, until you call someone in person and make them remove your name!

Thankyou Gos, yea I was wondering about that, before I really desided on getting a parrot, I really wanted to get into falconry, I have the mews built and ready back home, but the economy went bad and I had to move to a place where I could find a steady job, leaving my home behind, as well as a lot of dreams and plans I really wanted to do.

anyway, he just changed the diet, did some clicker training and food control? that sounds like hes raising raceing pigeons not training parrots.

so the answer is its a waste of money? Ive already have all basic books for falconry in my study, should I just go from there?

Personally I an not a fan of CW. You can do your own research and know what to do without buying anything from him.

thankyou for saving me 60 dollars, I nearly got that because I wanted to know everything ahead of time. If hes using Falconry techinques then I probily have all of his info already.

You can pick up a book on basic clicker training for a few bucks and it will tell you more than CW does. The video shows birds that are already trained and it makes you think it is so easy, just do this and the bird will do that. A friend of mine invested over $140 in his products and says she wasted her money. I've seen the video and his birds are trained well, but his methods are common sense and readily available through less expensive sources. Glad you didn't buy before you ask.

I do think that Chet Womach's (aka Bird Tricks) products are way over priced, but I will say that they give lots of good tips on their blog. Not all of it is "trick" stuff -- there're things like quick healthy food, cage placement, what to watch out for in "breeding season", potty training, etc. And anyway, it's free. You can follow the blog and they'll email you when they update it (about every other week) or you can just drop by at your leisure. It's Parrot Training Blog | Blog About Training Parrots | Birdtricks.com

Thankyou for the link Shanlung, Amazing, thankyou for making me see the light, what they are doing is no diffrent then how falconers train their birds, but hawks are the athletes of the bird world, and unless you are raising racing pigeons (limiting feed to maintain their flying weight) I have always understood you dont really need to limit the food to get your bird (or any animal) to do what you want.

the whole thing is sad... thanks for the link, I think Ill take YOUR advice from now on, I hope you dont mind me copy and pasteing this for future refrences?

I have the Taming, traning and tricks DVD comes with 2 Ebooks a clicker and 2 audio cds. They gave me 2 copys for 1 price of everything (they said keep it) I really liked it, taught him a couple of tricks like saying no and target training but it didnt stop him from biteing lol. its alright but they only show one meahod for everything and kinda seemed to rush thru it, they did have slightly pre Tained birds (they said they arnt trained. but i am happy with it I would give it a 7 out of 10

You and your friends and all others are more than welcomed to all that I wrote.

My writings meant for all of you, to read and to pass on.

Unlike people like Bozo brothers who probably read me and others, misunderstood the stuff and then went on to package that with other stuff they made up into a few CDs and flog that even as 2 for 1 pricing to you as their own stuff and go laughing all the way to their bank.

You might like to read and pass this on to your friends as well.

Thankyou Shanlung, I didnt have these two. I plan on printing out everything and passing them on, though I am having a hard time passing your word on, alaska is a cold place, and my friends refuse to believe that a bird can be travel trained.

when I get my own bird, maybe they will listen when I teach him to recall and start taking him on trips with me.

Basically to echo much of what has been said: Chet Womach is "legitimate" in most senses, but his products are just some decent advice wrapped up in a VERY overpriced package.

However, there are also quite a few scam websites that use his name (without permission and without any connection to him). These are not *in any way* legitimate.

So if you wish to invest in it be careful that the site you are at is really his - and then realize you're shelling out money for what you could get free at many other places.

I am not buying anything from chet Womach, Shanlung saved me a lot of money, I am going to listen to real people (people on this site) for training any birds I get for the future, its proven and used by REAL people, tried and true by members here.

I am not going to pay for info that may not work. I like the info given here, at this forum, If I didnt like it, I wouldent be here.

Edit
I dont mean to sound snooty, I just wanted to clear up that I am not buying anything from a hack like Chet.

I personally love the birdtricks people. Yes, a lot of their stuff is expensive, but even just being friends with them on facebook is beneficial. I've personally learned a lot from the few dvds I got from them - the stop screaming cd alone was worth it for me! The emails can be a bit much and their website does seem more like a infomercial than anything, but they are genuinely nice people who truly want to help people have better relationships with their parrots.

OOh not again......:headwall:

I want to add that a training diet does not involve starving your bird. You manage their food and train at specific times. Plus your using foods that they like and are excited to work for.
