Does anybody know how to get affordable but still safe cages and if not does anyone know a good place to get safe Lumber and stainless steel wire?

Availability is now an on-going problem, rapid increases in price is assured and the words affordable had left the room, In todays World. 97% of all Parrot cages are manufactured by three Chinese companies in which near everyone puts their name on them.

Stainless Steel Cages are the best, but are very expensive. DIY cages are a nice idea, but there are so many things that one needs to avoid that unless you are an experienced owner with the needed skills and the knowledge to select the correct components it is best not to undertake that kind of project.

For the last forty-years, powder-coated steel rod cages have been the standard. Over those years, we have purchased from the sales arm of one of those Chinese Manufacturers: birdcages4less.com.

Target a cage that has a top to bottom primary door, they make cleaning just so much easier. Also makes it easier to work with your Parrot.

FYI: Cages are defined for specific Parrot size and the General I want a cage is just not enough information to provide anything further.

Not to be mean, but if the cost of the cage is an issue, you may have issues with the other costs of owning a Parrot as well as Nothing Is Inexpensive when it comes to Parrots!

Ditto 'Boats advice. When you price out stainless steel meshing or even aluminum ones, and the requisite hardware to try and DYI a cage, your close to the cost to just buy one. DO NOT use zinc coated hardware cloth or other zinc coated steel wire products , zinc is a heavy metal and will cause heavy metal poisoning in your parrot.

I see you have cockatiels. Zinc and other heavy metals are a bit risky since they fend to climb the bars. A few licks will not kill them, but constantly climbing the bars may eventually lead to metal poisoning.

From what country are you from? I can help find cages in your area.
