So we recently got Charlie and on the first day we noticed something off with his feathers.

On his right wing he gets the odd feather sticking out. Sometimes it's just the one, today it was up to 6!

Here are some (bad) pictures to try and explain how they're sticking out.

He always has a preen and then they go back to normal, but it's happened daily now since having him. He has no issues flying as far as I can tell and I'm not sure what he does for them to "pop" out like they do.

Don't think he's molting at the moment, so wondered if anyone had any explanation as to what could be happening?

He preens and they go back to normal again, but they pop out again after a while too!

Thoughts?

It could perhaps be that Charlie will SOON molt, and that those feathers that like to stick out are ones that will be replaced. They may have lost some elasticity and are therefore more prone to sticking out.

Charlie is SUCH a good looking boy!!! :)

....get some rest, Cat. ;)

Thanks Wendy. I'm guessing it probably is just a moult considering there's a lot of the sheath type thing after he's had a good preen, but I can't feel much pin feathers myself so wasn't sure. + I find it weird it's just on the one side...

Haven't seen him much today (work) but I'll play with him after tea later and see how they go. Vet visit in two weeks or so anyway so if they're still bothering me I'll mention it. Just obviously with him being a new bird into our house I'm worried about all types of diseases and feather shedding/going funky is one of them!
