Changing cages

So I was thinking I would aventually get a new cage for my Blue Fronted Amazon I just got a few days ago. He is currently in a 24X24X36" cage (without stand). Is that a good size or should I go bigger? It does not have a play top and the cage is pretty old. Any tips on making the transition easier for the bird as to not stress it out too much? I was going to set the cage next to his current cage in hopes that he would start climbing on it then start moving some of his favorite perches in the new cage and see if he goes inside. Am I over analysing this?

Here are a couple of pics of the cages I was thinking of getting. The second one has an inside dimension of 24X22X46"

I've been thinking about this as well. I was thinking putting the new cage next to it with some interesting toys so they could explore, then start putting their food in it so they could learn it is a safe place, then moving all their stuff into it, and finally removing the old cage from the house.

Rosie, Norma, and Hardy are all 3 older second-hand parrots. Rosie and Hardy came with their cages and Hardy really needs to be moved out of his for safety/health reasons(no locks and paint is chipping). Rosie really needs more room. But I worry about taking them out of their "homes".

Just my take on it, there is no such thing as "To Big" a cage :p, a lot has to also do with how much time the bird spends inside the cage, if the bird is outside most of the time and only inside primarily for sleeping then the size you have may be adequate, some people have schedules that take them away from home for longer periods and thus the bird will spend more time in cage, a larger cage with more room for toys and excersise may then be more appropriate to keep him healthy and entertained, the plan you have of letting the bird get used to the new cage by setting it side by side with the old one and letting him explore on his own is one that I have and still do suggest if you have the room to do so, if after about a week or so he doesnt explore on his own then you can place him on top of the new cage and see what happens from that point...Good Luck and let us know how it goes if you go that route :)

I changed my Rosie's cage a few months ago and she actually went right in and had no problem. Started playing right away. It was a much larger cage and she had more room.
