we got a kitten she is way to curious about Oz (our eclectus) and Oz is way to curious
about her! if she comes in the room he climbs down to the bottom of his
cage for a closer look... in so scared that the kitty will swipe at Oz and
hurt him. we have no doors in the house except in my daughter's bedroom and
the bathroom. other then installing a door in the room oz is in (which we
are looking into) how can I keep him safe? also a door is not 100% we have
3 kids and Oz lives in the playroom so someone is liable to not close the
door fast or well... I tried spraying the kitten with a water bottle when
she goes near oz and it makes her move away for 3 seconds...

Cats are predators, birds are prey. Cat bites and scratches to parrots even if minor can and are often times deadly to the bird due to the massive amount of nasty bacteria on a cats claws and teeth.

I have four cats..only one was raised to be around birds and he never took much interest but I still don't trust any of them. My zon use to attack the cats so I think with sissy they just stay away from her. Don't take chances..not worth it with your bird.

Could you get a kennel to keep the kitty in while Oz is out?

Protecting your bird is so important..I'm lucky when sissy is out my cats don't go near her..I let my zon bite the cats in the tail years ago..not the best method and not my method but my finances ...when I leave the house sissy is locked up in her really big cage

Here's what I do. One of my husband's cats is terrified of the bird, the other is obsessed with trying to get her.

Cat's get free roam of the house, except the bird's room. They are NEVER allowed to set foot in there. They get sprayed with water if they go in there even if she isn't in there. Door is always shut and she is in her cage if I leave the room for longer than 5 minutes.

Any time I take Kyo anywhere out of her room, she is in her carrier, or the cats get locked in the basement first. Whether it's to go to the bathroom for a shower with me, or downstairs to watch tv in her living room cage, I take no risk.

The only time they see each other is when Kyo is in her living room cage, and we are RIGHT THERE to supervise. She is transported downstairs in her carrier, and I lock the cats away while I get her in the cage (as this is always a big fight- it has her favourite foods but she isn't keen on it yet) - she'd rather harass daddy and explore the otherwise forbidden floor

This is only a few times a week, for an hour or two at a time, to give me and hubby some more time together and socializing her with him a little better. I never ever leave her even IN THE CAGE unsupervised with the cats out. If I need to pee, I take the cat treats and the cats come with me. This is just what makes hubby and I most comfortable.

She is fearless. She will chase the cats and get herself killed if we let her out around them. She may be the least fearful bird I've ever met. She is so curious even things that scare her she will look first, run later. This is great for training, not so good for safety with cats around.
