Any tips on training a cockatiel to not fly away from his carrier?

Lincoln and Apollo both have a vet appointment this upcoming friday and I usually I just put Apollo in Lincoln's pak-o-bird but since I am taking both of them I can't do that. I bought a simple carrier and Apollo will not go NEAR it. For the past week I have left it open and easily accessible to Apollo with millet and nutriberries in it, his favorite treats. Hasn't touched them. If I so much as jostle the carrier a little or bring him near it, he panics and flies across the room.

So new thing shows up and your Parrot either disregards it or treats it as if it is radioactive. Standard Parrot Reaction! The more important this new thing is to your 'needing' you Parrot to come to it or god for bid, go into, the more of a radioactive response one gets.

Remember to use the Real estate Agents tour for all new things. It also helps that the new thing is linked to older safe stuff, like a favored kind of perch /toy inside. Treats also work. But it all works much better when time is not an issue. After all, you are likely stressing regarding the upcoming trip and your Parrot's total radioactive reaction.

Outside chance of working, but see if your other Parrot will go into it!

Rarely have any of our Amazons had any want to be around a carrier until it turns into the access requirement for going places in the car. Since we visit the Avian Vet far less often then our Amazon gets to go for rides, which he loves, he quickly connected the carrier with road trips. Now he stands in front of it when it comes out.

With you coming up against a time wall, consider sitting it next to your Parrots cage 24 /7 and load it up with goodies.
