BG Macaw
So here's my intro and the start of our BG
http://www.parrotforums.com/new-members-welcome/61619-new-guy-new-bg-macaw.html

We've stopped by the in laws everyday to talk to Cappy, last night she moved in with us.

She eats Zupreem FruitBlend and they was giving her Zupreem NutBlend on the top of her cage for treats.(original owners)

I added both to the top food dish and she's been eating both, sometimes soaking the pellets in her water dish.

She was actually warming up to my mother in law, would snuggle her head against her at times, still snapped at her at other times.

My wife and daughters have scratched her head but other times she snaps at them.

I've told them just to take things slow, she just had another move and not been trained.

I've given her some fruits, nuts, and veggies as treats. She's put her beak against my hand and has licked me a few times. I haven't pushed to try to pet her, I think it's best just to go slow.

She doesn't seem to care for raw nuts, almonds, walnuts, peanuts. She doesn't seem to like celery or carrots much. As far as fruit she likes apples a bit, loves bananas, and loves grapes if you peel them so she can easily squeeze and drink them.

She does not like being in her cage, my in laws and us have let her open her own door to come out and she stays out unless scared. At night it takes some talking and raising a sheet up on part of her cage but she eventually goes in to bed.

She occasionally says a few words, I repeat them back. She likes to dance, her cage is near a window for now and she loves watching outside.

Her cage was void of toys except a few pieces of wood. We bought a few toys to give her something to do but so far has totally ignored them.

Just going to take it slow slow, let her get use to seeing us and being around us, work on spending time near her and make her as comfortable as possible.

I would like to teach her to step up and and have read a lot about that. Clicker training is another one I was reading on.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments I'm totally open to them. We will be taking her to her vet soon for a check up.

Congratulations on your new baby [emoji122]

Clicker training helps to build a relationship with your bird and is much easier than you think [emoji6]

So you finally got him home, wonderful! Can I suggest a WELLNESS visit to the AV vet while Cappy is feeling good, and eating well? Its so important for your buddys long term health. If something wrong, the vet has something to compare it with. I just had Salty's visit this week - $400 and worth every penny. Look to Mark ( Birdman ) for training and tips on macaws, the guy is a friggin GURU! Wendy too!

Thanks for the tips and yes @wrench13 we plan on getting her to one as soon as we can. It's over 1.5 hours one way to the nearest AV vet.

I already ordered a few clickers from the big net store, I was at our nearest pet store, 40mins away yesterday and they were "sold out".

I'll see if I can get some pics later.

Good news, all the dancing with her I suppose, she came down to her perch on the front of the cage and bowed her head with me standing there. I scratched her head a bit. You could tell she had a different look in her eyes.

She's still skittish but I like the fact she came to me and gave me permission to do so.

Well just now managed to get her to bed in her cage. I didn't want to pick her up, I know she's not ready for that. After failing to coax her in, talking, treat, trying to get her to step up and covering part of the cage. I tried her shower perch. We were told she loved showers and I though she might recognize it and perch on it so I could move her.

Unfortunately it scared her a bit and she went straight in her cage.

Flipside of it we have our own little gibberish, a few words, and a little bobbing dance.

She let me scratch her neck and head several times this evening.

She also came walking into the living room looking for me. I was sitting on the couch taking care of my grandson and she came up and nipped my sock covered foot and said "Hello!" I reached down to her and she backed up.

After several more beak to foot taps and nips and "hehehe" and me scratching her head. She tried to figure out how to climb onto the couch.

I finally put my hand on the floor and she pulled it with her foot. I couldn't figure it out at first then noticed she was trying to regurgitate for me. Oh boy....

After I failed to accept the gift, she started back to her cage, I sat in the floor and she came back for a bit to check things out. Eventually she returned to her perch and I followed and she started rubbing her head against me.

Later I went to try and put my grandson to bed and I heard tap tap tap on the floor. She was looking for me again.

But yes, bedtime will be included in the training.

I also noticed she raises her foot to say "no" "don't do that" she doesn't always fluff up so you have to watch, sometimes it's just the foot "no".

I've learned a lot today and I think she has too.

The cage is 41"x31" and 60" tall so a little small and old. I do plan on getting a new one, If I had time to prepare I would of already had it.

The only time it's used is for bedtime otherwise she is on top or roaming around looking for mischief. I'd leave her out all the time if I knew I could trust her.

Clicker training starts this weekend. She is still timid with me and really skittish with the rest of the family. Hopefully it will help.

She is lovely and seems to be enjoying the attention and making herself at home... the cage is a bit on the small side for a macaw but as it is just temporary and is used for sleeping only then it should be okay for a while until she gets her new one ...she is Adorable :)
