Hello experts! A couple of weeks ago, this little guy landed on my deck. He hung out for a few hours and was gone. I haven't seen him since. I live in a semi-rural area just outside of Sacramento. I've done quite a bit of searching but I can't figure out specifically what he was.

Ideas?

I'm not aware of any wild flocks of red rumps in the USA, so that might have been someones escaped pet/aviary bird, unless someone let it lose.

If you see the bird again, you might want to set a cage out for him with food inside of it. If you do manage to capture the bird, try and look for his owners!

I do not know all the parrot species that are in California but escaped parrots or lost pet birds have been know to survive in California.

There are entire flocks of parrots here in So Cal. They began as strays but now breed in the wild.

He's lovely! Hope you can get him to come to you or to a cage and find his people for him!

It looks very much like a Red Rump to me as well!
