Hi, sorry about this weird question, haha. My dad recently brought his two cats to stay with us until his new house gets built. We didn't know this, but one of them has worms. Are worms contagious to parrots in any way? We don't let him near her of course, but we may have touched him after touching her.

worms may be contagious if the parrot gets into the litterbox...

otherwise, if they dont come in contact they should be fine. keep the cats away from the birds room to be safe.

unlikely to give the bird worms from touching the cat, after all, you would get them too... i dont think most worms would pass from bird to mammal, but always good to be cautious.

I could not find any literature on this. Even so, I would not allow the bird to eat the cat poop or play in the cat box. However, I would be more concerned about the cats using the bird as a cat toy. The bacteria housed in the mouth and claws of cats are deadly to birds. I would be more worried about the safety of the bird.

Hey DT, just noticed your new signature.....never realized some cats gestated for 280 days, guess that's going to be a pretty big cat ? ? ?

Interesting ! ! !

:))

You don't have to tell me twice to not let him eat her poop! xD
They are kept in separate rooms. I heard you can bring them on your feet so I've been careful of that!

Yep, that's why it's always a good idea to have a pair of gardening shoes that you only use while you're gardening & change clothes & shower before handling your birds.....of course, that's if you are a gardening type. heck, back in the 70s, I couldn't even get little cannibas seeds to grow.....

also cleaning the floor around the litter room and steam cleaning it is also another good preventative.

has the cat been on deworming meds?
