3 year old Blue and Gold Macaw- Elvis
Hey everyone ! Hope all is well . I've recently returned to the site afterward going through some personal stuff . I have my B&G since he was 3 months old,now he is 3 years old . I have an earlier thread with everything since the beginning . Right now I'm currently looking for an addition to the family. An African grey, hopefully one that needs to be re-homed. I plan on having him in a separate cage of course. Mostly likely many feet away from my B&G Elvis or probably across the room . I am aware of the dander/dust from the Grey's which I would need to have a good filter and keep him nice and clean everyday . I've been doing my research and I see that many of you all have a lot them in your household . I just want to make sure and start a conversation that others can benefit from . And help would be great, looking forward to your response :)

Sounds like you have a good plan in the offing.....with any new addition, you always want to be extremely careful until you can read their demeanor toward each other and even then, when beaks are so different, supervised interaction is a must.....

One thing you might want to consider when thinking about filters...if you are talking about the filter(s) in your heating & A/C system, it is best to situate cages so that they are the shortest distance to the air return (where the filter(s) is/are), especially if floors are carpeted and there is a lot of overstuffed furniture between cages an filters.....

Forcing return air across long runs of carpeting and/or a lot of upholstery causes the dust/dander to collect in all of the textile items, sort of defeating your intended idea of collecting as much dust/dander as possible.....practicality does not always bow to interior design.....

Thanks Weco, I always believe in research first. That's what I did before I got Elvis. Thanks for the tip regarding the filter.I live in a finished basement,Elvis has amply room to play and have a blast. And another addition to the family would be wonderful. I hope he don't get jealous over time, lol. I heard other people say that I should get a mate for Elvis, but I think he is ok by himself,as long as he has his daily interaction and play time with me. I always wanted a Grey, not for the hopes of them talking, I just know that they are a great bird. Right now I'm unemployed, so I rather find one,by chance that needs to be re-home. I'm hoping to gather as much information that I can and to share with you wonderful folks. Here is a link to my album of Elvis off of Face Book
