I've looked up rice several times, and found the same thing: brown rice is better than white rice, feed in moderation (as usual), etc. But I never found anything for sticky rice.

I was trying out our sticky brown rice to see if he liked it, and, lo and behold, he loves it. However, I came across something deep into a conversation that said birds can't digest sticky rice? If that's true, then . . . ?

From Wiki:
Glutinous rice (Oryza sativa var. glutinosa; also called sticky rice, sweet rice or waxy rice) is a type of rice grown mainly in Southeast and East Asia and the eastern parts of South Asia, which has opaque grains, very low amylose content, and is especially sticky when cooked. It is called glutinous (< Latin glūtinōsus)[1] in the sense of being glue-like or sticky, and not in the sense of containing gluten. While often called "sticky rice", it differs from non-glutinous strains of japonica rice which also become sticky to some degree when cooked. There are numerous cultivars of glutinous rice, which include japonica, indica, and tropical japonica strains.

I don't see the difference. Maybe I'm wrong but if he doesn't seem upset later and his stool is fine it's seems alright. Rule of thumb if it's healthy for you it's generally ok for them. But check the forum on diet and nutrition.

I also ran a search on this site and it's a common treat apparently.

The sticky aspect of this food is my concern. IMHO, any food that is highly sticky 'can' result in that food becoming stuck in the crop! I find near nothing regarding this subject in the AAV or any of the Avian Medical references that I use.

I avoid rice unless it is well cooked (fully plumped), thus avoiding it plumping (becoming larger) in crop and lodged there. Since 'Sticky' rice can combined with being under-cooked and act to lodge in the crop, I avoid rice unless it is cooked in our home and then only under very watch eyes.

Brown rice is healthier and what we use.

Once again, this is my opinion.

Remember to always cook and serve fresh, do not keep and serve or reheat left overs for you or your birds.

Sticky rice is simply short grain rice with a different carbohydrate composition, like you have mentioned. While I am unaware of any specific reasons for why you shouldn't feed your parrots sticky rice, just make sure you soak it before you cook it so that it cooks thoroughly :)
