I know the beak can grow longer and pointer. But do they change seasonly? Or is it possible for them to be worn down naturally?
If a bird had a long pointy beak is it possible it’s beak could somehow be shorter now?

Sorry for the vagueness..

I guess at times cockatoos might decide to chew a bit more than usual

I mean, maybe during the breeding season if they are breeding and working the nest box and grinding their beaks a bit more possibly
Thanks

Commonly beaks grow at a very consistent rate year around. Changes in growth rate is possible if for some reason the diet is reduced or radically changed.

It is very common that a beak can grow ever longer and because of activity /use the end breaks-off. Within a couple of weeks with a bit of work, the Parrot can shape the end back into a point.

YES-- beaks can change depending on their health, nutrition, and access to grinding materials. An illness, deficiency, liver issue or excess vitamin intake can cause a sudden beak length increase. A short-term liver issue can impact beak growth for many months after resolution (even if the cause was viral)--liver issues can make a beak longer (as can other things).
An increase in chewing or change in nutrition could cause a shorter beak.
Heck--- a resolved liver condition could also lead to a shorter beak many months down the line (assuming proper files are in the environment).
Also-- birds can run into things and break off the ends of their beaks (sometimes if they are too long, or sometimes if they are the right length--- it just can happen, especially if a bird is flying around a lot in new spaces).
Dietary change is huge in terms of beaks--as is disease etc.

Thank you for the replies.
I’ve just been to see a Corella at a vets 2hrs away to see if it was Sunny.
It wasn’t.

Oh Hannah, I thought something like this prompted your post but didn't want to pry. We're all hoping for a Sunny appearance at any time!
