Calypso Update - now with pics
So since my last thread, nothing much has happened with Cal during out of cage time. I wasn't disappointed because I realise these things take time. I've been able to go face to face with her anytime I try and that was good enough for me.
So there I am, standing in front of her cage, face to face and babbling rubbish as usual when all of a sudden - she lunged at me! I didn't flinch because she displayed no signs of aggression.
It was clear she was trying to reach something so I gently leaned forward. It became apparent. She took a huge chunk of my fringe and groomed it like she does her own tail feathers! All the while muttering quietly her version of "hello" (this is a low gravelly sound with the same tone as our hello)! She went from one end to the other and then looked at me like: Mum, you're done =]
Then she looked at me for a while and clambered down the front of her cage where I was. There was a very small gap between myself and the cage but she didn't flinch - on a mission!
She got to beside my shoulder and stopped. Time to groom the ends of my hair. She really took her time and of course I'm there telling her what a kind girl she is (and making sure none of my hairs are coming loose) she just looked at me with such affection. Yep, more tears!
Next thing, she's flown onto the chandalier style table lamp which as I've mentioned, she adores. I actually offered a piece of it to her to fiddle with and ladies and gents - SHE TOOK IT!!!!! Not content with this, she dropped it and decided to get on my hand and kiss it all over. More tears from Mum.
Unfortunately, she then found my index finger. Before I could even get "no bite" or "beak" out she'd discovered my fingernail and decided it needed to come off! Instead of screaming in pain I said very sternly: Calypso NO bite. She did. Sadly, she's half succeeded in her quest to remove it! Never mind. For once that evening I was a brave soldier and didn't cry!!!!
Although my finger is very colourful today I am grinning from ear to ear. There was no malice at all with her bite I could tell. She just decided it could come off! I will have the distraction toy in my other hand from now on but as I never expected her to come near me I didn't have it to hand! I will from now on!
Delighted Vonny and thankyou very much for taking the time to read my ramblings!
