Calvin - Blue quaker parrot
I made these for the first time today, I wanted to introduce Calvin to something new from some food I already had. I microwaved 1/4 of a pumpkin until it was soft and then mashed it up with a banana and some almond flour I made. I mixed it 50/50 with some of his chop mix and some chia seeds. Rolled it up into daily portions and then rolled it in some more almond flour I ground up. If he likes these I'll try coconut on the outside next time. I'll see how well it is received tomorrow.

Any ideas for new food introductions are good for me right now because my pet store seed junky boy won't try anything healthy at all. I've tried desperately to get him to eat greens and fruit. He absolutely refuses. And then yesterday when I was eating a bowl of cream of wheat he decided that he wanted a bite of that. Oh sure you little monkey, if it's not good for you you want it! It would have been ok but there was sugar in it so he only got a few bites before I closed that down (much to his dismay). He'll eat a little of the healthier applesauce I can find, a little raspberry. NO NO NO greens, no beans, no pasta-nothing normal a parrot should be trying. He'll eat his zupreem pellets, which I guess is better than the cockatiel seed mix he was on at the pet store. I blame them for his poor eating habits. They feed their cockatoo cheeseburgers when they have some themselves.

Easiest way I get my Macaw to try anything or to eat what he does not want is.......... Act like I am loving it. He will actually reach for what he THINKS I am eating.
Two carrot sticks last night :) most of the time he tosses them out of his dish.

Nice recipe, thanks for sharing! Please let us know what Calvin thinks.

I've found my bird wants everything he can't have. If it's "off limits" he will go crazy trying to get it. So i bring greens out, and once he gets close I move it away and act annoyed. I move it around about three times acting frustrated and then i finally "give in" and he eats it like crazy!

Calvin generally eats whatever I put in his dish for him, he's a good little boy! Whatever I'm eating is always better than what he already has of course! Whenever I'm eating while he's on my shoulder, he will reach down and take a bite every time I take a bit, he's very cheeky!
I've given him one with his food today, I'll let you know how he likes it after I've finished work!

New foods I have no idea. I read old posts about this and tried a few things. Nothing worked. Now that Ace has started eating He won't even eat millet now. All he eats is one seed out of the premium seed mix I bought. I got about 15 lbs when it was on sale. The pet shop told me it should last 2 months but he hasn't even gone through a third of a bag yet. I'm gonna try putting some broccoli tips in his seed.

I would definitely try mixing in fresh food with Ace's seed and then start reducing the amount of seed. When I got Calvin all he would eat was yellow food (corn, pineapple, mango ect.) I decreased the amount of yellow food in his daily food until he started eating the other fresh food. I've read it can take a long time to convert some parrots though, I guess I'm lucky Calvin is very adaptable.

He ate about half of the pumpkin ball, which must mean it's a hit, he ate more of that then he did of the chop he got with it. I'll have to keep the, in my repotoir.

Glad Calvin liked them! Sounds like he has a healthy appetite:) Always nice when they eat what their given instead of having to battle and sneak to get anything healthy in...
