Hello all :)

My older brother recently bought himself two Caiques from a breeder, a Black-headed Caique and a White-bellied Caique. They are both a bit older than 3 months. When he first got them they were doing great by eating well etc. However, lately the Black-headed one has started to beg for food, that kinda begging they do when they want to be hand-fed. She is still eating by herself just not as much as she did before the behavior issue. Is it normal they do that? What would you suggest him to do?

Might want to do supplemental feedings for the black headed caique and make sure that she isn't sick?

I have quite a few of these guys, all under 9 months old. I have seen them beg me for food, but only if I arrive with a treat in my hand.

It sounds like your little one is somewhat insecure, and has reverted to baby behaviour to get some comfort. But bear in mind that my guys feed each other all the time, one little guy feeds 4 hens.

So among birds, it can be a friendship thing, but I woudl watch carefully if he is begging from you , his substitute 'parent'
