Hello all,

We are thinking about getting cockatiel as well.
This little guy is about 8-9 wks old, with DNA cert, etc.
(Going to see him today)

In case we pick him up, we will need new cage for him.

Overall H 57.5”x W 20”x D 19.5”
Cage Height: 25.5”
Cage Width: 20”
Cage Depth: 19.5”
Wire Spacing: 5/8 Inch
Wire Size: 2.3 mm

Is this good size cage for cockatiel?

Main concern is Wire Spacing.
Most of the reading i did was mentioning 1/2 inch.

Please advise.

Thank you!

I don't think that's a good cage more for the width/depth. Ideally you would like them to be able to get a little flutter at least in their cage. I would aim for a 30" by 30"

I would say that's a small cage size personally as well. Once you add perches, toys, and water/food bowls, you'll be amazed at how little space is left. Unless your parrots are out of their cages for majority of the day, it's difficult to justify a smaller cage size. I would consider investing in a larger cage, if not now then at some point. Their mental and physical health is well worth the money.

I also would be wary of any spacing beyond 3/4", too. Their heads can easily become stuck. This is the cage I have for my conure, and it's great as an initial investment: https://www.amazon.ca/Prevue-Pet-Pr...2653681&sr=8-1&keywords=bird+cage+prevue+dome. I would love to get a larger one at some point, but my birds currently have a room entirely to themselves so it isn't really necessary considering that they're out for up to 10 hours a day.

Got:
Overall H 68.25”x W 31.25”x D 30”
Cage Height: 37”
Cage Width: 24”
Cage Depth: 22.25”
Wire Spacing: 5/8 Inch
Wire Gauge: 3 mm

Big thanks guys!

I use a very simple test when determining the spacing size for any Parrot.

I use my thumb and place it on the top-to-front of the Parrot's head. With a smaller Parrot choose a smaller finger. If you can insert your thumb or finger between the bars, its to wide for you Parrot.

Head sizes vary widely species by species and it is always important to check before you buy!

Thank you! Coco loves it, i would say, LOL

I'll have some pictures once we get some 'proper' toys :p as, its pretty empty now :)

that cage is awesome! I have a very similar one, the door was the full height of the cage though and it's so good compared to other similar price cages. I was told the finger trick too for checking bar spacing

Thank you!

It only costed me $180 CAD (tax in) (about 140USD)

Can't go wrong with that :)
