Cage Top Play Gyms

The first best place to look is the manufacturer or the distributor of your specific cage.

I buy our cages at Cages 4 Less on the Internet. Take a look at their cages and the play gyms that are on their tops. See if you can find a cage like yours and what play tops are available.

I do not recall what cage you got, so it maybe worth it to provide a photo of it!

I have one of the aluminum king cages and unfortunately it looks like they're all out. Of course now I'm regretting not getting the play gym.

Contact them directly and double check! They may have a variation that may work with your cage. Like changing the dowel length, etc... If that fails, ask them if one of their competitors may have something! King Cage will likely deep search to avoid that happening!

Being so close in NY, it would be worth a call and visit to King's location in NJ. They have a section in their warehouse that is full of prebuilt cages that may have went to shows or some are what I jokingly call Frankencages, they have have a different leg piece or such, but those cages are incredibly dirt cheap. You just have to be able to transport them out. I picked up a double cage for Ivory (my BE2) that is not available in the US, its a cage they released in the US. They had one for a show in the states to see reaction, but it arrived missing a food door and one of the middle leg supports. So one food door does not match the others (but its against the wall and is stuffed with shredding toys, so not that you notice and the oddball leg support is at the back of the cage, another thing you do not notice. I purchased the cage for under $100 (never used). Its not a playtop, but just an example of the great deals you can get for what is prebuilt in their warehouse. But its essentially a double 24x24 to give her 24x48 overall. She eats and sleeps on one side, then the other is filled with buckets and shredding toys to keep her busy when she's caged.

Here is Ivory's cage... and yes that is Max doing a home invasion, stealing food from her cage while she's out playing. Excuse the mess, haven't cleaned cages!

As you already know, that style cage top is near impossible to obtain and place a 'standard' cage top gym!

You're going to have to span from the top of one to the other top and build upwards from there. One of the dangers you 'maybe' faced with is the play top becoming overly tall.

Consider placing perches between the two tops as a starting point and build from there!

I'm glad to read this. I just bought a new cage for my amazon and got a playtop instead of a dometop. It sounds like I made the right choice!

I have been looking around at cages in anticipation of getting a Senegal in the Spring. I am shocked to see that cage prices - even the bargain brands - have gone up in price, making a parrot cage as expensive if not more than the actual bird. I don't know what has happened in the last few weeks, but I'm noticing an increase of $30-$50 in cage pricing. So as a result now, I don't know if owning a parrot will be something that is financially feasible for me.

No kidding, NJD!
I was in the habit of buying a new cage every few years when the powder-coating would start to give way, but this last time, I had just kinda hit the ceiling. I initially considered touch-up paint but finally had a brainstorm that has really worked out. I just cover the damaged spots with stainless steel washers. Looks funny, but extends the cage's life indefinitely. Just in case somebody else might profit from that discussion, here was the thread.

I am finding the same thing. I just bought a cage, got it home, he loves the playtop, but not the cage. I think its too small for him, so I upgraded to a bigger size. When I went to order the bigger one, I found that prices had increased in just the week I had had the first one! Now waiting on the new one and trying to sell the smaller one!

Its a mess, and yes, I hope it lasts forever! I cant afford another one!

Yes, this seriously affects my ability to get this bird. So unless I can find a used Cage via Craigslist then I can't get the parrot. The Ebay prices are also outrageous and now I see that Wayfair and Overstock.com are selling cages via Ebay. Unbelievable!

NJD... I am so sorry. You sound as if you would be a wonderfully responsive and responsible parront. I hope you find a way...

OP, have you considered simply attaching toys on top and making the top of the cage the "base" of the playtop? That's what I did with cardboard, chewtoys, that kind of hard and thick rope that creates arch-shaped perches, and other various "fun" things since both the shape and the height of Lucille's cage won't allow for a play gym. In the end, I like it much more than my old cage which had a play top as I can regularly change out what there is to play with up there and Luci spends most of her time up there, playing with the toys. Seems just as good as a play gym to me, and a lot cheaper than adding one!

NJD, I feel your pain on the cages! I managed to get a real bargain from Amazon.com. What price range are you looking for, and what size cage?

Puck :: I will be getting either a Pionus or a Senegal Parrot. I was looking for a 24x24 Playtop Open cage. I found the cage I want - it's made by YML but the price on it keeps going up. It started out at $151.00 - now it's up to
$171.00. It went up $20.00 in one week.:(

My experience with Wayfair with my cage wasn't the greatest. It arrived quickly and at a great price but it was missing parts. Major parts like 2 sides of the cage, also the bottom grate. They did ship me another cage. Luckily I didn't need the new cage right away.
