Someone is offering a Pionus with a cage size of 27"W x 20"D x 61"H (don't know the bar spacing.) Here's a photo (you can see the Pionus in the upper left corner.) Is this too small? The price is rather high for the bird and cage and I'm not sure I could invest any more into a new cage...

I'd say yes it's too small for a Pionus. But if it's 'used to' the cozy comfort of it's cage the way some birds are, it should be okay for the time being since he won't be in there constantly.

I admit my Budgie has a small cage (it's not the tiniest budgie cage but still), and even when he's out and free to fly to Raven's giant cage to play, he will frequently takes trips back to his own cage and sit in there and sing or play for a while before flying back out. It's his comfort :)

If you've asked all your questions about this particular Pionus, and if it seems like one you can't pass up, I'd still consider it and just save up for another cage.

Thanks, guys. I actually did more research today and have found that most people on this forum use either 32" x 24" or 36" x 24". Poor little Pi in a small cage!

Yeah, I'm thinking about this BH, but I also spoke with a rescue that has an unadvertised Dusky. I'm going to take my time and not rush into a decision. A bird is a long-time commitment and it needs to feel right!

Oh sheesh, that seems /way/ too small for a Pionus. Poor little bird. We have a monster sized cage--honestly, I think bigger is better in almost all cases (providing the bars are not too big, of course).

I applaud your decision not to make a hasty decision! As you said a bird is a long time commitment. I've known several people who have made hasty decisions or the wrong choice in the type of animal altogether. Usually it is the animal that looses, but I have seen some cases in which the animal and its owner were both miserable. Big thumbs up from me for the responsible decision!!!!! :-)
