Cage recommendations for green cheek

I agree that your current cage is a bit small. I got my GCC this one from Walmart.

In fact after I filled it with toys, perches, I wish I went even a little bigger. But it is an excellent cage and a great price. It has all the safety features of the big names, such as safety tabs on door AND grate.

Your 2nd choice is HUGE being a double. The bigger the better.

OP"s Cage is 24x20
Walmart Cage is 24x22

Not really sure how that's much of an improvement... -shrugs-

The double macaw cage has 1.22" bar spacing... in other words, your bird would easily squeeze through the bars. Not safe!

I recommend the 32x21 flight cages from A&E or HQ. You can sometimes find them brand new for $115-$150ish if you shop around.

13221 Platinum - 32"x21"x63" Flight Cage & Stand

If you want a larger alternative, there's the 38x24 cages that they now have

MA3824FL Platinum - 38''x24''x67'' Elegant Flight Cage

Or there's double flight cages....

6421 Platinum - 64"x21"x65" Double Flight Cage with Divider

For the price of the double macaw cage, you could potentially find a 5' x 5' x 6' walk in aviary for about the same price...

Centurion Cage & Aviaries | Cages

The Petco Mink Brown cage could also work.

Here's mine, houses cockatiels but GCC's are very similar in size. It has 1/2 inch bar spacing which is ideal. $200 shipped from Amazon.

thank you sooooo much! i really appreciate this. jethro is my first bird and i bought his current cage because several people recommended it as a large cage. i’ll be purchasing his new cage in a couple of weeks.

I'm honestly not a fan of "small" cages. Those being 24" x 24" or smaller. Not even for small species of birds! I have 3 fosters currently in what I consider to be transport/temporary cages. The smallest one (which happens to currently hold a green cheek) I actually use as a transport cage for vet visits or day outings. The next sized up contains 2 cockatiels. If I could find the hardware to one of my somewhat larger cages, I'd move the tiels into the bigger cage, then the conure into the cage the tiels are currently in.

Granted, if I had my aviary set up, they'd actually be in 32x21 flight cages instead... (two in use for my own birds)

If any were permanent residents, I wouldn't settle for anything less than the 32x21 flight cages. They just provide so much room for the little guys, which allows more room for perches, dishes and toys!
