Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
Cooler weather is approaching rapidly, and the nights are already cool. My house is huge and difficult to heat, and is usually just barely tolerable for Goofy et. al. Charlotte, however, is a different matter. Given that she's naked, she can't really keep herself as warm as the birds with feathers, so I want to invest in a good, high efficiency cage heater that will be powerful enough to keep all or most of her cage comfortable during the cooler months.

Any recommendations?

Wow. Good points.
I have no specialized knowledge but I would think any quality space heater, placed some distance from the cage would be good... you could determine optimal space/setting by experimentation.

Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... what about one of those heaters people offer to their reptiles, which get on or off as feels good to them? I have no idea what variety they come in, or how destructible they are, but it might be a start.

We have one of those reptile heaters under the grating and papers in Saltys cage.on the real cold nites, a regular heating pad on top of his night cover. Justmake sure they cant get to the wires or chew on the material of the heating pad. They also make a radiant heater that you put into the cage, next to a perch and the bird can snuggle up close if they wish. Poor nekid Charlotte, I'll be she does get cold. I am thinking about making a 'snuggly' like Kiwi has, Salty's not a cloth chewer and in my house you need every scrap of heat, friggin drafty old POS.

When I lived more inland, the winter temperature in my garage with flight cages was an issue, so I had a pair of oil-filled electric radiator space heaters. Did a good job and was safe with parrots. Of course, the birds were locked in their cages at night. The surface got warm but never dangerously hot if they ever escaped.

Something like this?

I use the Avitech cage heater. Hangs on the outside on special brackets that comes with.

Our house used to be chilly. I got one of those heated perches. Birdie sat on it all the time the first year, then wouldn't use it again. We moved his cage and also improved the heating, so who knows? I am a little worried about Gus - he seems to have difficulty moving around, so I ordered on of this plates that go outside the cage. To my surprise, it turned out to be available as a special order item from the Home Despot, with free shipping to my local store. I figure, it will be fairly localized and Gus can decide how close or far away he wants to sit.
