Hello! So I am getting an Indian ringneck within the next year, one thing that is baffling me a bit is the cage size, bar spacing ect. I have been trying to look for a suitable cage for an Indian ringneck so I can buy it in advance and get it set up before I get my new baby bird. I have decided I want a baby bird that is hand reared, currently trying to find a breeder close to Manchester in the UK that does this. I have found 2 so far that I have emailed so if any of you live in the UK and know any reputable breeders please let me know! I want either a blue or yellow baby :p I know that IRNs are not a beginner's bird but I am willing to put the time and effort in to train the baby and I spend most of my time at home anyway if I'm not working. I am usually only away for 7 hours a day but sometimes it can be up to 10 hours but this is rare so I have the time to spend with the bird. I am on a low budget, considering the IRN will probably be the most expensive thing to buy, I have found cheap cages that I think may work. I have seen a cage on eBay for £56, it is a flight cage and the inside of the cage is 52cm (W) x 78.3cm (L) x 94.5cm (H) with bar spacing of 2cm/0.8". Would this cage be good for an IRN from baby to adult? I will keep looking but it gets very confusing. If anyone lives in the UK and can send me a link to good cages I can buy in the UK that would be great, 100 is the most I can afford for a cage. Thanks! :D

Hey Lorne, Google is your buddy.

You should be able to obtain cages made by Kings or Prevue in the UK online...

Don't opt for cheapness over quality.

Here are 3 options:

  1. Scarllet Parrot Essentials
  2. Viper & Vine Bird Specialists 404-406 Bury New Rd, Prestwich, Manchester M25 1BD, UK
  3. Manchester Pets & Aquatics 66-70 Stockport Rd, Manchester M12 6AL
PS: You buy a cheap cage, one that's too small or with too wide spacing, just creates mental/physical problems which creates more $$$$ costs for you in the long run. Get a really large cage, that's your bird's home most of the day. Charge it to a credit-card, or ask the vendor about paying it off in installments. Buying online, sometimes that's an option through Amazon or whatever your British equivalent thereof is...

Kings, HQ, and A&E cages are pretty good. I don't know what is available across the pond.

I saw pics of a cage that looked really nice and sturdy but I don't remember the name. This was from the EU. If I can find it again(it's on this forum) I'll post a link.

I've only got one Prevue. It's a Silverado model and supposed to be a macaw cage. Any of the larger macaws would make scrap metal out of this thing in nothing flat. IMHO the only thing I like about it is it's size. Luckily this cage came with a rescue so at least I don't have any money in it.

Hi thanks for your replies. Dhraiden yes I beleive so too that's why I thought I'd post it on here to check, I don't mind paying more for the cage if I know for certain it will last a good few years! I love some of the cages on Scarletts parrot essentials and they look really good quality.. I like the Rainforest Valencia Play Top Cage and Liberta Voyager 2nd Edition Open Top Medium Cage. Do you think either of them would be suitable for a ringneck? It says so in the search criteria I put in, but I may as well get some input! What is the maximum bar spacing size? I think the second one would be best. I have some time to save a bit of money for the bird and cage but want to try and buy some toys ect every now and again so when I finally get the bird I won't have to fork out hundreds at once. I'll have a look into those cages and see if you can get them over here tiredoldman! Any advice will be much appreciated thank you!
