Awhile back I was on another forum and someone was complaining that she hated cage cleaning day because her bird always attacked her for cleaning the cage , and she wanted to know what others did to teach their birds not to be so upset about cleaning day. Being the funny guy I am I said "Take her out to dinner." and was shocked when she said she's to busy biting my hand to eat her dinner. Hold the Phone! Your not cleaning the cage with the bird inside her cage? Well Yeah! OMG! I had to stop and change gears it had never occurred to this person that she was doing something silly.
People Please Consider This From your Birds Perspective.
Your chilling in your Bubble bath just zoning out and a 5 ft hand comes in unanounce and start changing everything in the room. 911!!!! or (for you guys ) Your napping in your favorite lazyboy durring the game and your wife or girlfriend comes in from shopping with two friends and start the vacumm and singing it's a small world.
Try this next time Remove your bird from his cage put him on his play gym or perch with a video on and you go clean the cage, your bird is having alone time learning self play and comes home to a clean house no muss no fuss. :orange:

Not all parrots care. My boys keep eating and pooping through the whole cleaning process:)

Mine don't care if I clean the cage, but they try to "help". I have to remove them from the cages, or they get in the way and pull the paper all over the place.

Mine don't care either....they just watch and make sure I do a good job ..lol

I liked the analogies, Friedsoup! My fids don't mind when I clean their cages. They seem to be curious, and wonder why I'm doing it.

Mine all think it's playtime when I do the cages  Since I usually clean them when the wife ain't here, even the Zon's feel that way

Each bird is so different, wanting things their way.

Mishka's girlfriend Jessie that sadly went to Rainbow Heaven, only came out the cage once it was cleaned. Then inspected it from the outside, saying this and that LoL

Mishka loves it when I clean the cage, he sits watching, then tries to help me.
He actually distracts me, and we end up playing.

I do prefer it when he is on his playpen, then I can do a proper job.

I must make sure that Rosie is not near the cage when I am cleaning it or I will get a nice big bite. She is very cage possessive and doesn't want anyone in her house.

My Amazons don't care what I do in/around their cage at any given time. They just watch and continue to eat/play.

My B&G Macaw is a different story. I remove him and place him on his playtree to avoid losing massive amounts of hair ;) He's just too curious and too mischievous for me to do any major cleaning and/or maintenance while he's occupying his castle.

My Nya spreads his wings out and eyes get pinned and he rubs his beak back and forth on the bar haha but he dose not mind in fact he yells out "good boy" a lot it's pretty funny.

Jasper is pretty good about cage cleaning. He will watch intently what I am doing. When I put fresh papers in I generally tell him what it is.. "here you can poop on the Packers today"..."how about some yummy cusine to look at". He generally adds his two-bits to the conversation. When I take his top tray out (Ive stopped papering this one, it never gets pooped on and the worst it gets is perhaps some fresh snack spilled) I tap the top bar indicating for him to get up there. He likes to stand on the top of his cage door which prevents me from taking the top tray out. He's pretty good at following directions like that, he does it in the shower too, on the rod i indicate where he needs to be so I can pull the curtain back. The only part he does not like is the paper towels. I spray the towels and use them to wipe down the door and cage itself and he comes charging from whereever he is to try to attack the paper towel. :52:
