Cage by the window or not?

I think Zilla would like to have her cage by the window so she could watch the world go by all day, but I have been concerned about a draft.

This place is 18 years old, so not very old in the grand scheme of things. It has double paned vinyl windows, so there shouldn't be a draft, but the place her cage would fit would be by the HUGE 8' wide sliding door.

She also gets covered at night, but this is Oregon, and it's a bit chilly out and getting pretty cold at night.

She loves it when I stand by the window with her on my shoulder. I seem to spend a couple hours a day standing there letting her watch the world every day. Yes! I'm trained! :D

Maybe if only half the cage was in front of the window and the other half was by the wall? I could do that... She would get a bit more light there, but no direct sun (well in Oregon no one is getting direct sun this time of year) but even in the summer she wouldn't get direct sun due to the balcony of the upstairs apartment covering my patio. And if half was by the wall she could "hide" if she didn't want to watch outside?

Opinions???

I would do half the cage in front of the window, or maybe just a play stand in front of the window...chili's cage I had to move away from the window because it was causing her too much stress- she's very terrified of the stellar jays, crows, and hawks we have constantly lurking in the trees.

Maybe I'll try hanging her play stand in front of the window to see how she likes it before rearranging my whole living room!

Maybe she just wants me to be her personal window perch!

I have mine in front of a window but also a corner of it to the side. So he can move over and hide or just get away from the view if he wants. .

Chili has a window perch, so if she wants to sit in the window, she can- it's also close to her play stand so she can escape and hide if necessary

I've been considering rearranging the whole living room so her cage could be against the wall next to the window, with maybe a small portion of it so she can see out, but still can get away from the window if she wants to. Then I could hang her play stand in the window and make some kind of climbing something-or-other so she could get to her play stand and back by herself.

In my mind she would be happier if she had the choices of where to be instead of me putting her where I want her to be.

Kiki has her cage by the window sort of, she has cover but she is also able to see outside, and she hops on her playstand every day just to watch whats going on outside and inside. :32:

Sounds like a good plan Amanda! My macs LOVE being by the window and seeing the activity outside, I have their cage situated so they can get away from it though if they want to.

Nice set-up Shirre!

Just be sure to draw the drapes or blinds at night!

We have owls in our area (I'm sure there are lots in Oregon, too!) and, just last night, we had a huge one try to come through the window to grab our CAG. A REALLY big 'thump!' on the window, enough to rattle the wall!

All the birds went nuts!! I went outside to check on the owl - he was about 15' up in a cedar tree - a little stunned, but okay. He has tried this in the past as well, but previously he was trying to get to the Lovebirds.

Just sayin'...

The blinds get drawn half way across the window as soon as the sun sets (about 4:30pm here now) I leave the other half open until I go to bed. The half that is drawn early is the side she will be on.

I have heard an owl not too far from me, but since it's an apartment community in the middle of several other apartment communities I don't think they come too close. There was a hawk the other day just about 50 feet from my back patio in a tree though, so I want her to be able to get out of sight if/when she wants to.

I have all my cages by the big south facing window, and I think it's the best place, especially in winter. My window is draft-proof, so no worries about that. I also have a bird feeder outside, so they can do casual bird watching. :) I cover it with a thick curtain at night so they don't get bothered by sun if they want to sleep in (their cages are covered too anyway).
