I'm a new Rainbow Lorikeet owner and am curious the set ups y'all have for your Lori to help contain and clean the messy potty habits. I'm aware their messy birds but need ideas on how to keep the walls clean. Thanks in advance!

parrot? clean? These are mutually exclusive things!

Mabye try putting some plastic sheet on the wall?

I do have to say that even though he's clipped don't take him outside without a harness or carry cage. They can and do still fly in the outside air when clipped

I am seriously considering a piece of perspex cut to size and fitted to the back of Syd's cage to stop him hitting the wall with any food he decides is beneath his pay rate. I move his cage around to change the view so covering walls won't work for us.

Wet wipes! lol.... I've also heard of people with messy parrots (particularly naughty macaws that like projecting their poo onto the wall) making contraptions that basically sound like a command-tape-strip on the wall hooked to a paper towel that just hangs down and catches flung poo and can be easily disposed every day.

Oh yes I forgot my wet wipes which are a staple in my bird kit. Where would we be without them?

If he's a flinger, rolls f kraft paper are a suggestion. If not you can try somethng like I have for Salty

the stainless bowl is a bit pricey, but cleans up with a few wipes. I used a round barbque grill to keep him out of the poops and rejected food.

PS ... tell us you researched about lorikeets before you got one?

Parrots, messy? Never! Ya, right lol.

A stylish shower curtain (or easily wipeable/washable fabric backdrop) works pretty well for my two. I don't have lorikeets, but two messy conures who can spread one blackberry over 20 square feet of walls and floor. I've also found that puppy pee pads on the floor under areas that are prone to wet messes (so much easier to change it daily, than to wash the floor many times every day).

Oh yes. I tend to be a tad on the obsessive side when it comes to researching something I'm interested in. I've read many ways people have worked to keep their area cleaned if kept indoors (which I do) but noticed a lot of people on this forum get pretty creative with ideas I've never heard of.

I do understand birds, especially parrots, are messy. My dad had over 20 in his flock when I was a kid and guess who was responsible for cleaning up in order to earn her allowance. Yes me! The lorikeets, however, is by far the messiest I've owned. One of the funniest but definitely the messiest. The potty training is actually coming along nicely, I just needed a little help coming up with creative ways to keep the walls clean while I'm at work. I currently have trash bags taped to the wall but was looking for something a little less trashy looking... No pun intended LOL!

some perspex sheets would be the best long-term solution. Possibly try rigging something up where the sheets attach with hooks to the cage so they can be removed easily to clean and try to use something so the sheets sit about 1/2 an inch away from the bars so your lori can still climb on those bars

fake grass drop sheet - easy to vacuum up food crumbs
coarse handle brush - get dried poop out of tiles/floor boards
clear sofa plastic - cut it to size, easy to clean
paper towel roll in every room in the house.

My 2 Lorikeets make an impressive amount of mess.

I use Press-n-Seal to line the floor around the cage with paper on top, and on the wall near the food bowl. It provides a nice moisture barrier and is easily pulled up. I just replace as needed. It has a light tack so it self sticks to floor/wall and is fairly unobtrusive. I also use it under "drop zones"/perch areas like the stair railing or backs of chairs where paper is unsightly and impractical. It helps keep the poop out of the carpet
