Perjo - Female CAG hatch Nov 2015
I know some people have done this, I think it would be neat since Perjo doesn’t get much company but my concern would be getting sick from another bird.

Curious as to thoughts on FiD play dates?

I have mixed thoughts on this. It is a bit of a gamble, but then so is taking your bird out to the pet shop, etc. I suppose if the bird is "known healthy" and they get a long it would be allright. For a short time I even took Alex to work with me at the parrot shop.

Shrug, as with all things, there is some risk, but it is a balancing act of risk and enrichment.

I have an acquaintance who had a grey and always had bird parties. When I was on FB, I always saw pictures with at times up to 7 or more birds. I was very surprised b/c once I started researching, I was reading that that was not a good idea.

Well, her grey got sick and was diagnosed with avian bornavirus. She was only 5, when she died. She died when I only had Levi a few months. I was heartbroken for her. But, thought to myself, no way will I ever expose Levi to other birds.

I get freaked just by taking him to the Vet. I make his appointments, the first appointment on a Monday morning. So, the hospital has the w/e to air out the germs.

So in essence, I wouldn't do it.

If your certain the other bird is healthy, I think its a good idea. Salty and Amy love their playdates with each other, going nuts calling for each other as soon as they see each other.

I see no harm in it as long as you KNOW the other fid is healthy! I would never take Amy to see Salty, knowing Amy may be ill,and I know for certain that Al wouldn't allow it anyway, and vice versa. As far as a "multiple" play date,I wouldn't do it.

ive thought this too, the lady down the road who i adopted Enzo from still has 3 parrots including Dill, the most adorable male CAG. I dont believe she ever allowed the birds out together as they couldnt be trusted to not fight!

At some point im going to build an outdoor flight in my garden, that could be the perfect opportunity to give it a try.
