Hi, I thought because lots of people on here have cags and are so knowledgeable that maybe you could tell me about them.
I am researching my next fid(won't be getting one for a few years) and I keep thinking about Greys. They are one of my dream birds and I keep finding my self coming back to them.
Could you just tell me everything about them, the good and the bad, their behavior, their diet, their cage size ect. Are they nourotic like I keep reading Greys are? How cuddly are they? How noisy are they? How demanding are they? How energetic are they?
Sorry for all the questions, just want to know everything about Greys.
Thanks, Chris.

I was thinking a diet of either tops or Harrison's hp with fresh food, and a 64"x32" double macaw cage, does that sound good?

I have never been happier now after adopting my 23 year old CAG Chloe. Everyone here has helped me a lot with her, and after not being handled for 15 years I handle her and so do all HER boyfriends :)

Compared to my Amazon and Conure.....Chloe is an angel. She whistles and talks a lot but the only sound I do not like is the high pitch squeak. It hurts my ear drums.

Chloe loves to play with all her toys and swings all over her cage. Whenever I come into my room she says "Whoa!"

I have this cage Petco Designer Mink Brown Standing Parrot Cage - Parrot Bird Cage and Playtop Bird Cage from Petco.com

even my little conure has the same cage...hahaha!! I love it though, and it's around the same dimensions as the cage you said!

I don't think you can go wrong with a grey, I adopted mine without really knowing her past too well and I adore her. I am constantly telling my friends about her, and now even one of my guy friends wants to get one!!!! I didn't go away this week because I didn't want to leave her alone for 5 days :( I felt bad!!! I play online games and use a chat program called ventrillo, and I leave my microphone open and my online friends come into the "channel" that I am in and they talk to her for me when I am gone lol! I have nice friends, but that shows they even enjoy taking time to talk to her and get to her talk to them too. It's pretty neat actually when you think about it.

Seriously though the only bad thing I can think of is that high pitch squeak she does. I have 2 house rabbits that live next to her cage and they don't care about her or get scared at any noises that she does. I'm trying to teach her to say "hello bunnies" right now. hehe.

I feed her pretty bird pellets and I mix it with seed. She gets lots of fruits and veggies ....and goes WILD for any type of noodles. Ugh that little brat gets to share my dinner! She's always trying to drink and eat what I have!!

She does cuddle and loves to sit on shoulders. I posted a photo earlier when we first got her out and she was all over my boyfriend. She loves him so much.......so glad I adopted a bird for HIM!!! :)

Is harrisons better than prettybird? I might look into it. She doesn't like pellets too much....which looks pretty common around the forums!

She really loves her ladder, she climbs up and down it and waddles around the bottom of the cage and goes into her cardboard box and chews that up and plays with more toys.

Chloe hasn't been handled in over 15 years and she came right out to us in only living here 3 weeks. I don't find her to be neurotic. She is an absolute love and joy in my life. She loves to snuggle into my neck. She didn't even try to bite the vet when I took her in to get her nails done. She was really great and I was really proud of her.

You can't go wrong with a grey in my opinion. <3 <3

honestly I think you would enjoy any bird that you added to your family, but I think a grey would make a great addition!!!

Thanks guys!
I think, after some sad reviews on the double Mac cage, I think that I am going to go with the xl corner cage(42"x42"). Now all I have to do is hang out with some Greys for more than a couple of min to see if I'm allergic to them!
I won't be getting one anytime soon so I still have plenty of time to think about it and research them, but my mom is on board so I think I will most lkley be getting one(haven't exactly told my dad about it yet, lol)!

Lintini, that is a great looking cage for that price. Looks so big. Do they sell these in the store or can you only order it online? Are they good quality and durable? Sorry I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I am hunting for a cage and this look great.

I have never had a CAG, but I did have a TAG for two years. I put a deposit down on her when she was 10 weeks old and took her home a little more than a month later. I was told by some to think about getting a male bird because I'm female and a male would bond more strongly to me - I can tell you that in my experience, that was not the case. Sachi and I had a great bond! I visited her everyday before I could take her home.

I did not socialize her properly and she really only liked me and one of my friends (who looks similar to me in stature/hair color). When I met my boyfriend, she COULD NOT STAND sharing me! I had read that TAGS tend to be more of a family bird than CAGs, but if you don't socialize....yea. Didn't work out well for us! In my mind I thought, how wonderful, a bird that only loves ME! In reality, i wish I had taken the time when she was young to get used to other people.

I think African greys are amazing and this is just my experience - even though it's not the exact same as a CAG, I hope it helps!

Grey's are awesome birds, never heard of them being neurotic tho.
The bad, they sometimes bite, just as any other birds do.
In the 4 and a half years, Mishka has only bitten me twice, his hormones are kicking in LoL.
His behavior is fantastic, (besides the two bites) He always listens, hardly doing anything he is not supposed to.
AG are know not to be cuddly, I have had quite a few cuddly sessions with him, depends how he is feeling.
The cage, the bigger the better I reckon. Lots of perches to sit on, so much space to move and climb around. Enormous space to hang toys and swings, to keep them entertained and stimulated for hours on end.
Noisy, each bird is different, I am fortunate Mishka prefers talking more than anything else, so the noise level is low.
A Grey is a demanding bird, wants lots of love and attention daily. Routine is a must, the bird knowing what is going to happen basically each day.
Mishka is on the go all day, from 4.30am till 8pm. Extremely energetic, always busy playing, and entertaining himself.
Diet : lots of vegetables, fresh fruit and healthy treats. Offering pellets daily, small amounts of nuts, such as almonds, macadamias, pecan, many healthy nuts to choose from, never offer you bird peanuts. All nuts must be plain ones.

:grey:

I saw a grey, Cogo, on e bay the other day. It was in good shape and the cage was very large and came with the bird all for $600. What a bargin that was. Good luck and most of all have
fun with the best of the parrot world a grey.
