hi all , I wanted some advice from those of you that have alot of experience with budgies. My budgie has his left eye closed as of today and his right eye is most normal , he is playing and eating as usual and there seems to be no discharge or anything of that sort.In the past the vet gave me antibiotics to give him in his water and since today is the holiday in my country , most vets are either not in or closed at the moment , so i'm in a bit of a dilemma . I was considering going and getting otc antibiotics but i'm not sure how safe that would be and then there's a chance i could be treating him for the wrong thing. I've also considered maybe its a vitamin deficiency that's causing it , nevertheless can anyone give me any advice as to what i should do , would it be safe to use otc antibiotics? I've also increased the vitamin supplements when i noticed it this morning which seems to have opened the eye a tiny peak , so with that being said i'm assuming that it really is because of vitamin def. but still not sure , open for suggestions. thanks.

It's really, really difficult to give you advice for something like this. OTC antibiotics are too much of a risk for a bird that small, especially if you don't even know what you're treating. It could do far more harm than good.

The best thing to do is either find a vet with emergency hours (many, many vet clinics do this but the charge is extra), or to wait until a certified avian veterinarian is available to do a blood panel to determine if it is bacteria, virus, or diet related for treatment. If you treat without knowing the actual cause, you can destroy the healthy bacteria within their bodies that leave them vulnerable, especially if it's virus related.

I'm sorry to hear about the struggles your poor little budgie is going through and I hope you're able to get him healthy again soon [emoji20]
