Hi, sorry if this is wrong forum area but I got a budgie 3 days ago and today I started to leave door open for a bit. My dog ended up in the room with me for a bit and someone rang the door leading the Budgie to fly around hitting the roof (popcorn) and walls. Im so scared he may have hurt himself, he's visibly fine and chirping im just so worried and don't know if I should take him to the vet or not. Thanks

Bird generally do this and are kind of built for it. It's super common.

Don't worry too much, but still with a new bird you want to schedule a visit with an avian vet just to get a baseline.

Once your burd is familiar with your house, then even when spooked they won't hit anything . Unless it's dark, they don't see in the dark.

Hopefully your little bird is ok. Keep him caged and quiet fir a few days, to help any brain swelling go down. If your bird becomes clumsy, or can't stand, or tilts it's head, take to vet immediately, they can give medication to reduce brain swelling.

Hope your budgie is doing well and making a full recovery!

Please use extreme caution with your dog in same room as uncaged bird. Many breeds have high prey-drive and attack fast moving birds. Even if your dog appears to ignore, never let them together unsupervised!

In the future, try to make sure that things are more controlled. A dog or anything potentially frightening can definitely cause them to "spook" like this, as can a suddenly opening door, moving furniture, loud people etc.

If you have an avian vet that is open today, you might consider a visit.

If your bird is not eating normally or acting odd, it could be in shock. If that is the case, make sure that things are quieter and calmer and warmer than usual.

Unless a window or mirror a bird usually sees it coming and a lot of impacts (IN GENERAL) are slow or with feat. and they have such a low body weight, so not a lot of damage done. If it hit a window or mirror I'd be a lot more concerned.
