I have a cockatiel that spent the first eight months of her life in a very small ferret cage with no perches at all. She was obsessively climbing around the cage and her tail feathers are badly splayed and broken off. Her wings were also very badly clipped. She has had a lot of trouble learning to use her perches. She has difficulty keeping her balance. She is now in a large cage, has plenty of toys, and a variety of perches. I put a fluffy towel covered with newspaper in the bottom of her cage until I know she isn't going to fall from her perches. I was hoping someone could tell me how long it will take for her broken tail feathers and clipped wing feathers to be replaced with new ones. I feel so bad for her, she's such a sweet little bird. She loves her toys and stays occupied easily and doesn't cling to her cage bars nearly as often as she did. She has several hours out of her cage daily. I don't know how to make her more comfortable other than wait for the feathers to be replaced with new ones.
