So I bought pickles my sun conure about 3-4 monthsw ago so he's about 10mos old. He broke all his tail feathers early on when I got him which iv read is normal. So he sprouted 2 new ones one longer then the other. So yesterday morning I took him out and noticed the longer one was broken. So I went to look at it and when I touched it he jumped side ways to the point he kind of lost his balence. So I put him on the counter and held him and looked and saw a good amount of blood back there so I took him right to the vet and he had two broken blood feathers. The vet said the blood clotted so he took them out cleaned him up and told me it looked like he fell. So I'm guessing he fell at night. So I moved his sleeping perch lower and put a folded dish towl under it.

Young conures are active little things and they often have to go through their first molt before the figure out that their feathers are necessary parts of their bodies.....think children getting so involved in their playing that they forget to keep their clothes clean.....

oh the clumsy baby stages.... hopefully he grows out of it soon so he doesnt break more :D

i think lowering the perches in his sleeping cage would be a great idea to help prevent it :)

Yeah it seems to be working. He gets rough when he plays when I take him out in the morning I find him hanging upside down fighting with his toy.
