Well, we've decided to bring home another dusky conure. It was between him and a gorgeous gold capped conure. However, the gold capped baby wasn't very social, and the dusky conure's friendly, clownish personality immediately won us over! His cage just arrived, so we're going to bring him home today!!! Very excited!:D

His name is going to be Niko. He was hatched on 3/12/2012.

I hope Gizmo learns to like him once he's out of quarantine.

I had no advice other than to go with the one that you felt would be a better pet... (no experience with either species, and as gorgeous as gold caps are, they're noisy!) and I see you've made the decision on your own! Gratz on another dusky!

As I type this, my new baby, Niko, is sleeping, buried underneath my hair! I'm so in love with him already! He's so gentle, sweet, and very cuddly.

Congrats on your new baby! :) Very cute name!

Thanks so much, everyone! Niko is playing contentedly inside his cage, but to date hasn't touched his food since he came home yesterday. He's not accepting treats from our hands yet, either. Hope that changes soon, because I'm going to become worried!

Dont worry too much at the moment. It is all new to him and he needs time to settle in.

Look forward to seeing some pics of him:)

As soon as I figure out how to do that, I most definitely will!

I've never had a velcro bird before. My other dusky is, what I call a diva bird; always on the go, vocal and needy. This little guy sits very quietly under my hair, burrowing into the side of my neck and giving quiet happy chirping sounds while he gently nibbles on my ear. So, so sweet! I actually forget that he's there at times.

Just got him to take a few seeds and a sprouted pea from my hand. Phew!:green2:

Gold caps are so beautiful but you made the right choice. Dusky are calm and not noisy. But I would of went with the Gold Capp because you already have Dusky. I tend not to add the same species. Variety in birds just seems so much fun and rewarding. But maybe it's me. Peace.

Oh, all right. I'll share. LOL! It's a great name, huh?

I've hopefully uploaded 2 images of Niko. He didn't know what to make of being outside for his very first time.
