:grey:in the next year or so i want to get back into breeding. i haven't done it in years and years. i've bred 'tiels, lovebirds, and conures. but i was thinking i might want to work w/derbyans, which are a lovely parakeet, but then i've been doing ALOT of reading on parrotlets. i love those little guys! so i'm really very torn on which way to go.

the size difference is a big consideration, but also the behavior is a huge consideration. totally different behaviors. if YOU were to consider, seriously, breeding a parrot, what would you decide to work with?

I love breeding my Lovebirds, but I'm really looking forward to starting with Conures. I think you should go with whichever bird you would personally want to own as a pet. After-all you essentially get to raise the chicks for two months, it's important to enjoy it!

i ALWAYS have loved the teeny little birds because they're so energetic, and the colors are like tiny rainbows. when i had lovebirds they were wonderful to watch in the outdoor aviaries i kept. it was always so hard to let them go, i ended up keeping more than i sold because i loved them so much. i imagine it'll end up being the same way, but i don't really care. breeding birds is more for me than for anyone else.

the little ones aren't as long lived as the big ones either, so i don't have to worry so much about what will happen 40 or 50 yrs down the road. that's something that ALWAYS worries me. especially when i've seen many senior animals come thru my house over the years. birds, dogs, reptiles, ppl have short attention spans and animals live as long as we do. i could really get into working w/parrotlets.

tiny dragons in feathers. ooooooo what fun :D!!!!!!!!!
