Bottle Cap safety

I know there have already been posts on this subject, and from my research I would say that bottle caps are perfectly safe for birds. However, I haven't been able to find out what type of plastic they're made out of, which makes me hesitate to use them. Does anyone know what material a typical plastic water bottle cap is made of and if it's bird safe? I was wondering the same thing about plastic straws, too. Pippi loves plastic toys, so I think this would be great, but I'm always cautious with new toys...Any input is appreciated!

I was wondering the same thing about straws.

they are on some if not most toys, I personally don't think they are safe, but I could be wrong.

As far as i know straws and plastic bottle tops are safe i use them in most of my toys.

I've recently started adding some bottle caps to Percy's foragfinmg toys. Like with everything new I give him, I watched him like a hawk to see what he would do. I found that certain caps are not 'man enough' for him and instead of opening them (treat hidden between two caps, he summarily just chewed them to pieces. He didn't eat the pieces at all but I've discontinued the use of that particular cap and only use the ones he doesn't chew up.

Not being much of a wood chewer yet, Percy loves plastic toys and especially plasric that he "chip away at". Although I don't think birds would eat plastic, I take care in what types of plastic I give him.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I think I'll start giving Pippi a few and watch her closely for a little while to make sure they seem safe, just because I'm paranoid. Also, It's good to know some of them can be chewed through while others are harder...I'll see if I can get some high quality bottle caps

i cant find bottle cap that birds can get through. most are really hard. if you're doubtful about any toys, better dont try it out. you cant risk your birdie, can you??

Yeah...I always do TONS of research before giving anything new to Pippi

Yukio loves straws / bottle caps! I always wash the bottle caps before giving them to him.
