I have a pair of 5 month old gccs GCCs, a male Turquoise and a female Yellow Sided split dilute. They came together and were already bonded and I couldn't separate them.

They are odd with their behavior. If I take the female, Mira, away the male, Lucian, screams and hops around until I give her back. Mira on the other hand will watch for him but stays silent unless she can't see him. When lights go out they call for one another until they are nestled against each other on the perch. Lucian will feed Mira and groom her intently.

Mira on the other hand is a witch. If he's feeding her she'll grab the food from his foot. She will shove him from the perch if he gets pushy with grooming, and a few times I've seen her bite at his feet or open her break at him and literally chase him off the perch. She'll do the same if he's being nasty with me and she's there.

I have no idea of this is normal for them? One moment they are sweet with one another, the next Mira is being mean. But they don't like being separated. They aren't pulling feathers, no blood, not guarding food, ect. The relationship seems one sided a lot of times.

Is this normal? What do I do?:confused:

And if Mira can see my other female Gcc she puffs up and chases Lucian away. She screams at him and grabs at him, though she's not biting or pulling his feathers.

Seems like an entirely normal bonded relationship to me. Bonded parrots act very much like young human siblings... they can be so sweet and play so well together one second, and the next they're pulling on each other's hair and yelling at one another.

I have a bonded GCC and IRN. Both birds are strongly bonded to me and each other, so it's a pretty funny love triangle all the time. Sometimes they just care about me and get mad at the other for trying to be near or on me, or they get snippety with me for trying to be near them (though that rarely happens). If I take my GCC, my IRN will get very upset, but if I remove my IRN my conure is pretty much fine until we're out of sight. They'll cuddle one second then be beak fighting the next, or they'll both be cuddling me then fight the other off my shoulder. It's an entertaining dynamic, but they don't wish harm upon the other. I also find that because both of my birds are flighted that fights rarely escalate, as one of them can simply fly away and remove themselves from the situation.

Long story short, it sounds pretty normal to me [emoji39]
