Bonded conure doesn't care about the owner?

Hello,

I recently got a second conure (~2 months old) Beastie because I felt Apple (6 months old) was too lonely while I'm away most of the day. Everything went well. They bonded pretty quickly and started staying together and preening each other.

I'm very happy with the result. However, when I tried to give Apple treats today while he was standing next to Beastie in the cage, to my surprise he didn't seem interested at all.

Apple was very attached to me and I can't believe he ditched me in such short time. I wonder if conures can bond to more than one person/creature/object?

My GCC was very bonded to my previous GCC,both are still awesome with me. My GCC is now Bonded to my Quaker, they feed eachother, preen eachother and mate. Both are still a
Lovey and
Affectionate with me.
Gotta spend time with them, hand feed part of their diet to them, preen them .

This is normal That is why I don't encourage people to get a second bird---they tend to bond to one person or bird (it is instinct). It doesn't always happen and does depend some on the species, but once a mate is involved, a lot of owners find themselves losing status.

Ditto. From what I've read, introducing second, third etc parrot(s) to a flock is always a crap shoot; things can go up, down, stay the same or sideways. And species does not seem to matter. IMHO and YEMD.

I'm probably not getting another bird because of the reasons in this thread.

If the bird died unexpectedly do your best to remove the other bird from cages toys etc the bird who died used as much as possible, you may have a disease responsible and your best bet if possible is to try to isolate your remaining bird so it doesn't inadvertently catch it
