what materials do i use to make homemade boings and can i use pipe cleaners?

You can try it but I don't think they will be strong enough to give you the bounce or even hold the weight of your fid, I think the manufatured boing's are constructed with spring steel, gives it the "Boing" and retains its shape that way, I've never opened one to see if thats what it is, just an educated guess, if you try it with the pipe cleaners let us know how that turns out for you and your little guy

I made a boing out of a rope and some steel wire. Be sure to use a heavy gauge or twist 2 moderate gage wires together than slightly open the rope up and lay the wire into it.Make sure you leave out enough extra wire at each end to wrap the extra around to make a loop. clip toys to the bottom and a clip to the top to hang. zip tie each end and wrap rafia around it. Cost is only about $12 vs. $40 to buy it retail.

You can also make a swing out of this by making one about 16- 18" long and bending it into a "U" shape. My ekkie likes both of these.
