A Cockatiel Named Crippi
I have a baby IRN at around the age of 2 months old. He is fully weaned. Right now he is very aggressive when inside his cage and after playing with him for
little bit he begins biting, very hard.

When ever he bites I always do my best to stay calm and say "no" firmly. Then I put him down somewhere and ignore him. He always flies back to me and tries to bite me again. I am thinking of putting him inside his cage for a time out. He is also very aggressive towards some inanimate objects.

Any more suggestions?

My ringneck was the same at 3 months old, with my experience I didn't make a sounds or move when he bites then once he realised there was no reaction he would walk up my arm, so I would place him on a perch and repeat till there was no bite so every time he didn't bite, he got a treat, make sure your treat has value, a favourite treat always works best
I know how hard their bite is so I know your hands must be abit of a mess right now! I recommend aloe Vera for the cuts... That's what I used anyway :)
I don't personally like to do time outs, that makes them look at their cage in a negative way and say you have your bird in a cage whilst your out, it will see it as a time out and be upset whilst your away, I like to keep their cages as their safe place where they can play, forage and chill if I go out (not very often) or they go out in their cages for some sunlight, I find saying no to bites really doesn't work as that's the reaction they're looking for
As your ringneck is still a baby, you could try and teach your bird to target train and do tricks, this way you can distract him if he's feeling like he wants to strike, or you could give him foot toys whilst he's on your hand to distract him and eventually the biting does stop, I haven't been bitten in months and my irn is almost a year old, my fid is Eric, a lutino indian ringneck, he's very talkative too! :)
I would add a pic of him but I can't figure out how lol!

here is a little update on Topi
he does not bite as much as he used to but he still does bite a few times when he is frustrated
but i still have a problem. How do i stop him from biting my ear? whenever he sits on my shoulder he bites my ear so i don't allow him there.

Hi, i can sympathy as i had the same issue with my baby. I was heartbroken that he didnt like me anymore but dont worry.... i know its very hard but keep loving him and playing with him, teach him a few tricks and after a few months he should be as sweet as ever! Also Please dont use the cage as timeout since i did that and them whenever my bird was in his cage he would scream because he thought it was timeout! Please dont do that!

thank you all for your help. Right now I do not use his cage as a timeout place, I simply place him on his perch. his biting has gotten a lot worse, he does not bite when stepping up. but after he steps up he aggressively chews on my hand. he has drawn blood a few times. when he bites I ignore it and put him on his perch. what can I do to distract him? and how long does bluffing last?

Do you use treats to entice him to step up? That's always a good way to stop the biting with rewarding him for good behavior. PUt him down somewhere before he bites you. The key is to read his body language -- if he doesn't want to be picked up because he will bite, leave him alone.

Work with him while he is inside his cage, sounds like you need to work on your trust bond.
